I just got my dakota a few months ago. got a 97 club cab w/ a V8.

Anyway, in front of the console, where the cupholders are, i was thinking about putting a computer system, to play dvds, have GPS stuff, store mp3s.

only problem is, i have NO idea how to do anything except get a computer working. I dont know how/where to hook up the power, or how to route the audio into the system speakers.

http://forums.audiworld.com/a4/msgs/1734601.phtml

this guy did it on an Audi.

What i was looking to do was build a custom box with the computer inside, and have the screen inside that.

pretty much I'm a complete noob.

Well I know for sure, as far as power goes, get a DC/AC converter that converts the 12v to household 120 current. Plug the computer into that.

You could build the box out of fiberglass, but MDF would probably be easier. Carpet it for a good look. Just make sure you put fans in it somewhere so the computer wont overheat.

To tie into the Audio. I would think youll need an aftermarket stereo with an auxilary input. Take the Line-out or Speaker-outs from the computer and connect it to the Aux. Input in the Headunit. You may have to buy different cables and splice the two to get the connections you need to do this. But it seems like it should work.

As long as your going the computer route, I would use an older 14 or 15inch LCD computer monitor to play the DVDs and show the mp3 files. You can find the small ones cheap now, almost cheaper than the Car Audio 7-10" screens.

The computer thing seems like a good idea that ive thought alot about also.

EVERYTHING you will need for that project is on this site.

http://www.mini-itx.com/

They are doing awesome things with computers these days.

I've got one in an ammo crate I built before I found that site, can't wait for my next project.
