Subject: wiring lights to dome light
IP: Logged

Message:
I would like to wire lights onto my steps so that when the dome light is on the light is on, and when it goes out so does the step lights. i tried the dome light wires but only ran into confusion. One wire was a steady power (no good) another did nothing, and the third was weird when the dome light was on the step light was off but when the dome light went out the step light came on. I even tried switching the wires off the step light and still does the same thing. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

It may depend on the year of your Dak. On mine (an '03), the dome lights have +12 on one side all the time and the other side goes to a awitch that will either ground the other side of the dome light (turn light on), not connect the other side of the dome light to anything (turn light off), or connect it to a wire that goes to the CTM (where the CTM controls the dome light).

So, to wire a set of lights to run like your dome lights, attach one side of the lights to a 12V fused source (fused so you don't melt your wire in case of a short) and the other to the non-12V side of your dome lights.

I am getting clear corners and want to change my signal bulbs to blue for my 1994 dakota SLT but i cant find them on the internet. I already have super white 5000k for my low/high beams and want to complete it with the signal lights. Can anyone tell me how to find them?

I don't know whereto find them. But do yourself a favor and check your local laws to see if running blue lights is illegal. Some states you cannot run Blue or red lights, because those are the colors that the cops use. Wouldn't want you spending the time and money just to gettold that you have to take them out.
