Subject: Has anyone seen Tinted/Smoked lights???
IP: Logged

Message:
Hey I was looking to get some different lights for my dak, front and rear. I don't really like the euros, but I was thinking of smoking a pair of factory tails. I already bought them, and the spray tint, but I wanna know what it will look like before I do it. I was also curious about smoked headlights. My friend has them in his mustang and they good really good. I don't want to have to smoke them myself, and if they're available to buy, I'd like to see how much they cost. One last thing, I have water in the top part of my APC clear signal. Any tips on how to get it to go away? Thanks for any help you guys can offer.

Why don't you just keep the clear corners? I think they look alot better than smoked headlights. But, those smoked headlights are like $20-$30 for the set.

My euros did the same thing with getting water in them... I ended up having to put my stock headlights, put my Euros in my room by an open window.. Took about 5 days to completely dry up. Now, if you end up with spots in the light you will have to wash it out then dry it

Water Fix, take them off, put them in the window like josh suggested. You could try to find the leak and put some clear silicon on it as well.

As for tinted headlights, they are illegal, but they look cool. You can buy film that can be put on the interior of a Clear Headlight cover (same as the smoked kind but they are sold clear), this film appears dark until your headlight is turned on, it turns to clear. Smoked when it counts and clear to make it legal when in use. Its expensive, but extremely unique and safe.

Ok, so I went to Ramchargers and bought a can of VHT Tail Shades to do my tail lights. I sanded them lightly with fine grit paper, and cleaned them. I sprayed probably like 6 very light coats of the stuff, and then I ran out. The darkness is very sweet, I didn't want them completely black, just darker than normal. The only problem is that they are kind of dull. I have heard of others clear coating them, and I am planning on doing this next. I just don't know what kind of clear to use. The can doesn't say, I have emailed VHT and haven't gotten a reply yet. If anyone knows, I would greatly appreciate the info. Will try to post some pics when I get them done.

It is made by VHT, and I bought it at Ramchargers. It is our local high performance shop. The can was $11, and I used almost all of it. I checked around, and found out that places like summitracing.com should have it as well. There was a can on ebay last week too. I've also heard of people using this tint that was made for model cars. I bought a can of it by mistake on ebay. I wasn't too sure of using it on my truck, so I just bought the name brand stuff. Hope this helps, I'm gonna try to clear coat mine this week.

I have an 01 Dak and sometime last year one of the trucking magazines did a story on Dak tail lights. They ordered some transparent blue paint from House of Kolor and sprayed the tail lights. On my truck I did the same thing, but since I work at a dealership, our body shop painted my tail lights and 3rd brake light. Instead of ordering paint from House of Kolor, we used the paint code for Patriot Blue Pearlcoat and left the pearl, and metallic out. Sprayed 3 light coats on the tail lights and 2 coats of clear. The tail lights have a tinted look to them but it doesn't affect the output of the bulbs near as much as smoked tail light covers. The tail lights look good with the slotted tail light covers painted.
