For the love of god do NOT go to maaco for a paint job. My friend had an s-10 done at maaco and had to take it back 7 times before it looked acceptable. The paint came right off the hood and the strip under the grille between it and the bumper 2 days after he got it back the first time and then it happened in other spots over the entire truck each time after that. I would spend the extra money and go to a body shop where they'll do it right the first time. If you value the looks of your truck, do it right the first time.

someone once told me maaco would be alright if you sanded down and primed everything first before you took it in...Because they just shoot over your original coat, dont even do a primer....Is this true?

i have had several experiences with maaco... some good, some bad.

They are all francised owned and the quality will only be there if the people do quality work. Its not like all maaco's are bad.

I had my 82 lebaron convertable taken there to get a paint job (white to hunter green). But, i sanded the whole car myself and primed it (dont expect them to do body work). It turned out really good.. not the best job but for the $129 price tag... it was worth it. Now my dad took his 91 Camaro RS there to get a color change (blue to chevy orange) and the people literally just painted over the blue... peeling to the day. Now, my brother just had his jeep painted about 6 months ago, hunter green to charcoal. BUT, he had them sand the whole thing down to the metal (old paint was really f'ed up) and it turned out really good. Just depends on what you do first or what you pay for.

You don`t need to prime the whole car , it won`t help anything if the orig. paint is in good condition , ie. not peeling or bubbling or severely faded. If it`s just scratched up a bit , or you are just wanting to change the color, all you need to do is sand the orig. paint and apply a sealer before painting (that is something the shop should do while in the booth , just before they start spraying color). If it has some dents and dings , you`ll need to prime those areas where the bodywork was done.

If you`re not expecting too much and did the prep work yourself to an older veh. then yes you could go there and be satisfied , but if you have a newer veh. and are pretty picky....NO don`t even think about it. And if you are really unhappy because they did such a crap job , remember when you try to trade it in , the dealer will definately be able to tell also , and your trade-in value will fall a ton!
