I don't know if anyone else knows this but 4wheelparts.com is haveing a sale right now on steel horse products, I just ordered upper and lower billet grilles for 70.98. 49.99 for upper 15sumething for lower and free shipping. pretty good deal if you ask me.

Steel Horse Automotive closed their doors and went bankrupt - everyone's probably flushing their inventory out. Only thing that sucks is you'll have absolutely 0 chance at getting it replaced with the exact product if something goes wrong.

The guy on the phone I ordered from cause the website was down said the bumper grille won't fit. he said the 97-98 and 99+ have different bumpers. wtf what could be different about them? I ordered the bumper grille anyway for 15.99 I can make it fit lol.
normally I love 4wheelparts.com's customer service but this time I was disappointed, and being a supervisor in a large call center I know what should be expected of a phone rep.

I do a lot of websurfing for the website, and also get quite a few e-mails from people telling me about products not listed on the site, notifications of changing information, asking for advice, etc. etc.
The site has really exploded over the last few months... It had 35,000 visitors in March 2003 alone.

yeah I got mine last night too, my trucks in the shop too for some body work when it gets out I'm gonna work on putting them on. still don't know why the lower was listed as till 98 only because the box they came in from steal horse said 97to present dakota durango.

Well in much pain (due to another illness - not installing it) - I got the lower grille on, and will have the uppers put on this weekend. Broke my only 3/16 drill bit, and don't have the energy to get another one. Looks damn good though - will look sweet when it's done.
Tell you what - took a little cussing to get that last corner lined up, drilled, and screwed in. I don't know about ya'll but I drilled it throught the metal,,not just the plastic like the instructions say... That thing will fillet a bird now....

Sweet Jesus! - I decided that I would have my friend help me with uppers installation on Sat. All I have to say is "Custom/Application Specific MY ASS!" Luckily we had a plasma cutter and grinder! Too bad they're out of business,,I'd love to chew those idiots out. Took nearly three hours to complete. Plus we bent some of the bars (got it back to normal,,kinda) because of clearance issues.
Did any one else have a problem with them? Mine's a '01 4.7L. The box said '01,,but the instructions were for '00 was there a change?
Looks good though,,just a pain in the a$$.

I don't have any pic.s right now,,I can probably email some to you if you want later. I can take some tonight, and email them manana.
I had to cut pieces out of the billet grille to make way for some bolts holding up the radiator, then I had to cut the middle support bar in the original grille itself for clearance issues,,,Plus there were two tabs on the billet grille that didn't attach to anything... Really sucked. Oh-ya,,I had to grind down some plastic on that radiator hanger to make it fit too. What a B!tch.
Just remind me if I forget - I wouldn't want you to damage your billet grille like I did. Because when you close it the first time (assuming you're having the same problem) it will hang there, and bend the snot out of the grille.

dam why couldn't I have read this half an hour ago. I'm haveing all of the same problems. did you get yours to mount up inside the grille slots pr behind it? also my hood latch was hanging up. did you have this problem?
also bent the top two bars on my grille when Iclosed it on the radiator hangers. when you cut them were did you cut them?
pictures would be awsome, since you have experience with the setup. would like to get some before monday as I'd like to get these in this weekend but beggers can't be choosers.

I installed the Steel Horse grille a couple of weeks ago. I Had to Grind the top of each vertical support. Just close your hood lightly and use a flashlight to see what your caught on. I just used a rotary tool with a grinding disk to take away about an 1/8" of each support.

The billet grille's vertical supports. They are what was hitting the radiator. Also, I attached the rod for the hood release lowerer on the latch than the instructions said. If not It will get stuck on something. I attached the nylon guide to the bottom of the oem grille frame.

I had to cut a notch in the back of billet grille (can't be seen) to clear the bolt/screw that holds the radiator mounts. Then I took a grinder and worked the plastic down enough for it close, and then some more for good measure. Two of the tabs didn't have anything to attach to, so I left them. I cut the middle support bar so the hood latch would operate correctly. Plus the little safety latch handle is a joke! I'm using a screwdriver for now.
I also bent some bars the first time I closed it,,but bent them back. I'm happy w/it,,just a bitch to put it.
I'll take some pic.s tonight I promise,,and email them to wants them tomorrow.

thats what I figured just remove a little from the grille do it will clear the bolts. before I tough the verticle support I'm gonna try and flip the hood release backwards. I use a screw driver to open my hood now so thats what I'll do if it will work backwards utherwise I'll use a die grinder or drmel or cut off wheel what ever works.

BigDawg - Not with out some elbow grease. I put it on my '01 Sport,,but it was a pain,,looks good though.
