Subject: tire pressure monitoring system ....

Has anyone ever heard of this before? A tire pressure monitoring system. I read about it a long time ago, and i would like to know if anybody has any info on it. They were like sensors that went in your tires. They picked up readings from how hard the ground was pressing on the tire (or something like that). Then, a led sceen or something read out the reading inside the cab. This sounds really cool, i just can't remember where i saw it. I looked through all my catalogs and i can't find it. So maybe you guys could help me in finding out if it even exists. Thanx.

I have heard of this, but i don't how it works. All i know is that is does exist. I saw it when i went with my friend when his uncle bought a new car. It was an Oldsmobile, i think an Alero. I noticed when i looked inside that it had something that displayed when the tires were low or something. I thought it was pretty cool too.

Dan, if you ever remember who makes it, or if you see it again let me know. Thanx.

Eric ~ i have a digital tire gauge. I was just thinking about this system b/c i thought it was cool. If i had this system, i would never have to use my tire gauge.:) Later.

I think its a neet gadget but it's just that a gadget. cool none the less, its like the overhead console in the daks. there really nothing you need but hey why not its cool, or a navigation system you can just buy a road map.

I'd like one if it would work like a hummer and I could change my tire pressure from inside the cab for varying off road conditions.

The 2002 Jeep GC was the first DC vehicle to offer this ( I think ), but you can convert it to your truck. You need the EVIC ( Overhead trip computer ) that supports TPMS and the sensors that go in your tires. They are valve stems.

EVIC - 56042756AF Part number 2002 with TPMS
Valve stem transmitter - 52088990AC - need 5

You also need a magnet to train them with. You can catch this on ebay once in awhile, but expect to spend around 500 for an EVIC, 5 valve stems, and a magnet. From the dealer this would be around 800.

There IS a less-expensive option out there. (When I get to my office in the morning, I'll get the specifics!) There is a company that makes a tire pressure monitoring system that is relatively simple. Basically, there is a sensor that replaces your current valve stem and reads the psi value in the tire. Then there is the LCD monitor that you can mount anywhere in the vehicle...it's wireless if I'm remembering correctly...it shows the four wheel positions and the psi reading for each tire. Obviously, you can't adjust pressure or anything (That would be COOL wouldn't it?), but it's a nifty little gadget that keeps you from having to get out and manually check air pressure. It makes keeping proper inflation easy, which is very important for a number of reasons. The kit contains the LCD monitor and 4 sensors and is relatively inexpensive...nowhere near the cost of the OE Jeep kit mentioned above. Of course, a $5 tire pressure gauge is the most economical route...lol...but we're all about neat gadgets and mods here aren't we? I'll get some specifics and get back to you tomorrow some time...

Okay, the company is called Intellivalve and the product is their Wireless Tire Monitoring System. It's pretty slick.

(You can see the product at www.intellivalve.com)

This thread got me interested in a system for my truck. The manufacturer's website lists the entire kit for $299. I called TruckXpressions.com, (where I've been ordering some accessories for my Dakota here lately), and they have them cheaper than that. If your interested, I'd see if they can hook you up.

Hope this helps!
