Subject: Stillen Grille Shell

Message:
I am getting ready to install my Stillen Grille Shell i just recieved, and I have a question hopefully someone can help me with before I cut my factory grille shell I wanted to know something.
When I place the Stillen shell over the billet grille there is about a 1 inch gap on both the left and right sides, between the billet and the shell.
After I glue the Stillen shell to the factory shell will that correct this problem.

IF you have the Stillen Grille Shell Your help would be greatly appreciated,

Putting the Stillen shell over top of the stock one will spread it out a little, but I don't remember having a 1" gap on the left and right sides of the grill. I remember on mine that it fit over the top of the stock shell without forcing or spreading much. I remember that it picked up a great deal of rigidity of course.

The way I did mine was to get another factory grill shell and use it to mount the Stillen on. It's gonna take more time than you realize to mount and glue it, trim and sand it, then have it painted. You can prob find one at a junkyard, and it'll save you from having to drive around without one while the new one is being fixed up. Just a thought, but I'm suspicious of that much a gap before fitting, and the only way to find out for sure is by cutting up the stock shell and trial fitting everything. Good Luck!

Thanks for the Help 02blackrt. Your truck looks awesome.
I may have mislead you with the question though. The gap I have is between the back of the stillen grille untill it reaches the billet grille on both of the sides.
The billet grille sits flush against the stillen in the middle but as it goes to the sides the gap opens up. It is hard to explain I wish I had a digital camera.
Does the shell slide inbetween the billet bars at all once installed. If so that would solve my problem.
One other question. Did your grille come with a support for the middle peice of the shell? Mine did but the directions did not reference it at all.

Your help is apprecitated.

One other thing I noticed is the center bar on your shell is curved downward. The one they sent me goes straight across.

JohnDak, I see what you're saying now, sorry about the mixup. I have a gap on mine about a half-inch at the bottom of the grill shell. The only way you can tell is to get extremely close to it and see. Not something that is noticeable. Not only that, but there was no way to bolt the billet grill to the tube frame at the bottom, as it was about 1" from the tube. It's bolted at the top fine, but I need to rig some spacers to go between the tabs and the tube frame. It's still pretty solid with just the top two bolts in though.

Never seen a Stillen shell with the middle bar going straight across. Have they changed the design?

02blackrt,

The middle bar is not totally straight across. But it is not nearly as curved as yours is. It seems like they recently changed the design just a little bit because the kit came with a piece to reinforce the middle bar. The instructions do not show it in any of the pictures or in the text.

I don't have a gap in the bottom just the top section of the sides. It seems like it will be really noticeable. If the urethane shell slides between the bars in the billet grille it would close the gap somewhat. But I have a feeling once I glue the shell I won't be able to fit it between the bars.

Thanks for the help,

Johndak
