you will most likely need fender flares, and they will rub... cant beat the price of tires though!!

you still going with stealths?

Hey kota whats up. I just got 20x8.5's today. I have a 2000 R/T with a 3/5 drop. You've probably heard this question a million times, but I don't know what size tires to use. My main goal is to have the least amount of space in the wheelwell without rubbing or scraping the tire. I purchased the AR maxims, and I think they will look pretty good. They were def. the right price. But anyway, I really need some answeres.. I don't want to waste 800 bucks on tires b/c I am stupid and can't figure out which size to get. I figure I would get 255/35 series in front which sould be fine. But what should I get for the rear. Like I said before, I dont want any space in the wheelwell but of course I don't want to rub.. Any suggestions. By the way, (4) 20x8.5" with +19mm offset. Thanks in advance for your help and info. Please get back to me as soon as you get a chance please.. I don't want to make a tire mistake..
Thanks again,
Mike

Hey blackdak01. Good choice. They are bad a$$ rims. And they are a really good price. If I figure out which tires I am going to get, I'll get them put on and post some pics. But for now I must wait. :(

mike, i would use about the same size tire all around, since all of your rims are the same width. at most i would go 1 or maby 2 sizes wider in the rear, while keeping the same aspect ratio.
255/35's would work, and you might want to look into some 245/40's

Brandon, if it is going to be a while before you drop the truck, you can get the 275/45's and see how you like them, and how much room they take up in the well. if you are going to drop it soon, get a smaller tire
here is a good tool for you guys to use.

http://www.dakota-truck.net/TIRECALC/tirecalc.html

measure 3" down fron the front wheel well, and 5" from the rear wheel well, to see how close it will be to the tire.

go to the calculator, and put differant size tires in it to get the OD of the new tire. you can determine how much space the tire will take up, and make the decision of which tire to buy.

eric, the guy at the shop never mentioned backspacing and i forgot to ask. i still dont know exactly what backspacing is though, how much should i get? im going back on monday to order them. oh and i prob wont lower it for at least a couple months so i guess ill go w/ those tires

mike, your dakota is sweet. w/ the AR maxims our trucks will look almost the same, especially once i lower my truck, except mines a quad cab. ill post pics also as soon as i get the rims on, which i hope will be next week

Hey thanks alot eric. I'll check that site out in a few. But I was wondering, if i go with 255/35's in front, what can I use in back to go 1 or 2 inches wider while still getting the same profile thickness? Ummm yeah.. You know what I mean??

brandon, backspacing is the amount of space from the rear of the hub (the part that mounts to the truck) to the edge of the rim. the less BS, the more the wheel will sick out of the well. with a 3/5 drop, go with about 6" of BS on a 8" wide wheel. dakotas require a lot of BS, that is one of the reasons that not verry many people make rims for us. the other reason is the lug pattern.

mike, in the rear, only go with a 265, or MAX, 275. i think the 275 is too big IMO. if you do a 265, keep the 35 series. the tire will be a LITTLE bigger, but not much. (35% of 10mm is no big deal)
another thing to remember is, when you go wider in the rear, you cant rotate the tires. when you are paying $300 for a tire, that is something to think about. an extra 10mm is not going to do much for you.
the hot ticket would be to get a 10" wide rim in the rear, and do a 285/30/20.
