3M makes a paint protection film. i want to say it is called cabskin it is like a real thick plastic tape

on the truck i had before even the foam i placed in between the canopy and the bed rails still rubbed the paint ... gave it a scuffed look but didnt rub through to the metal... They claimed it wouldnt do it... Not sure if felt would do the same or not
