on mine i welded a piece of rebar to the factory latch. when you pul the lever in the cab, hood pops up far enough for you to reach the moded lever. only thing i could think of so it was done.

Here's what I did after installing my Drunken Bear grill:
Parts (all available at Home Depot):
(1) set 3"x5/8" zinc mend plates
(1) 1/4" threaded rod
(2) 1/4"x3/4" bolts
(4) 1/4"x20 (coarse) nylon lock nuts
(1) pkg. adhesive-backed ratcheting cable stays

I installed the grill, then removed the hood safety latch. I put the latch mechanism in a vise, then placed the zinc mend plate on the release lever and marked it. I drilled a 1/4" hole in the lever, installed one bolt, then drilled out the other hole and installed the other bolt. Both bolts were secured with a nylon lock nut. I then reinstalled the safety latch in the vehicle. I put the threaded rod through the passenger's side of the grill, above and behind the uppermost plastic. This way the rod comes above the top right grill cutout (not visible from outside) and about 1" short of the side of the grill near the fender. I attached it onto the mend plate one hole above the safety release lever with two locknuts -- one on each side of the release. There is about a 1/2" gap between them to make it easier for the rod to change angles through the mend plate. I placed one of the cable stays on the same upper edge of the grill and snapped it around the threaded rod to hold it in place. Then I took some 3/8" flex loom and zip-tied it around the exposed center section of the threaded rod to keep it from making any noise/rattles when the truck is in motion. Now, I pull the release from the inside of the cab, then raise the hood slightly from the center and simply push the exposed end of the threaded rod and it pushes the release. The only parts you can see from the outside are the ends of the two bolts and the lock nuts on the original release lever. This will probably be painted black one of these days to give a more uniform look to it.... I will be posting pics and more detailed how-to's with pictures once the grill install is completed.
