bmx is cool too. tried it last summer but picked up on skating much faster and so i stuck with that. about the best trick i can do skating is a varial kickflip. i can do boardslides but it took me much longer to learn the varial kicks than the boardslides so i consider them harder. all i can do bmxing is a short wheelie and barspins. i am thinking of selling my bike to get some new skate decks, the ccs blank i've been riding has almost lived it's day.

care to sponsor a brotha? haha, j/k

where are you from joe?

i'm very close to tupelo mississippi (not real huge but pretty well known around the southeastern us, probably 45000 folks, just a guess) and we need a skatepark. the cops give us tickets for skating the streets here. we had a VERY small one (6 ft. vert and a few flat rails) a few years ago but it was privately owned and the guy decided to close it down for some reason or another. i was wondering what are some steps we could take to try to get one here? what was done to get the one in your town? we have this thing here, some kinda board or something, called the "community development foundation" but honest to goodness they don't do anything for the community, it's all for the 3 piece suits with the money. all they do is open up shopping centers and such, things to make themselves more money. there is very little for recreation here that isn't privately owned. anyway that's my sob story, if you have any info i would appreicate it. we also had a skateshop at one time but it closed and moved to memphis, tennessee (which has two skateparks but is also two hours from here). just another little side note.

Well im on Ontario Canada..
our town where i live is only about 3000 ppl..
we managed to get a sk8 park because we pushed and pushed to have one.. we went to every town meeting and made our points.. We needed one because of the ever so popular and growing skate era.. So we did a lot of fundraising to buy materials and such to build our own ramps.. it didnt come along all in one month or too.. it took us almost 2 years of fundrainsing and other such events to even start our park.. you have to spread the word to ppl.. Let them know you wanna help the town out.. give ppl a place to sk8 instead of the streets... then ppl will listen to you.. as long as your trying to do good.. someone out there will help..
and in 3 years time our skate park now consits of a huge halp pipe.. 12ft high.. with 2 ft of vertical drop.. its amazing.. the kids love it and weve had ppl as far as 5 hours come down to ride it.. no one around here has one as big as ours.. we bought it from a college that built it.. and the money we bought it with came from FUNDRASING... so our whole park consists of the huge half pipe.. a smaller 6ft version of it.. a bunch of table tops.. Launch ramps.. a bowl that was donated to us by a cement company.. they came in dug the hole and poured the cement for it.. and a bunch of other ramps.. so its actually very big.. we had a sk8 comp in the summer last year and that raised a bunch of money. .had live bands playing bbqs.. draw prizes.. lots of sponsers.. West 49, spitfire,Tower were some of them..
so as long as you get the word out and do fundrainsing ppl will listen to you help you out.. its all about spreading the word..
and as far as the gentleman shutting his down its probably because of insurance reasons.. its not very cheap to insure a park for public sk8ers.. incase they get hurt and sue.. where is the money comming from for them.. soooo in the long run..
Do some picking and naggin with ppl.. go to meetings talk to the council let them know what needs to be done.. do fundraising showing them your willing to make this work and you never know what may happen..
hopefully this helps.. and if you need anymore info let me know im here to help..

yeah i knew i/we would have to work hard for it, i personally don't want to head up the push for a park since i've got so much going on right now and soon will have more with the start of college but i am definitely gonna start some kinda work on it. my main idea was to try to get in good with this bank called bancorpsouth here which is HUGE, they own several different things, including the tupelo coliseum which is where all the concerts and such are held and i thought that it might be workable to try and tie it in with that piece of property or something.

could you just not put up very large posters everywhere stating that you are not responsible for injuries, you accept the risk by entering and get away with not having liability?

what do you think of a petition to the city to stop skating tickets or build a park? it would be kinda double crossing yourself but maybe we could try to convince them to take the skating ticket money and put it toward the park?

i have so many questions running through my mind right now i don't know what to ask first lol, maybe we should take this to email?

Sure we can take this to email.. mine is joseph_thompson@stream.com
Anyways you can get away with posting signs.. it does work.. but not all of the time.. and as far as the no tickets for skating goes.. you cant do it because i mean come on .. its a law.... so if one place changed it everyone will have to..
And its a good idea to look into the bank.. they may be just what your looking for..
