Lift, tires, wheels, shocks, wheel flares, exhaust, new air intake, headers, new plugs/wires, supercharger, NOS, and I have only seen jeeps and hummers with a snorkel, so add a snorkel.

98kotasport -

What did you have in mind for an overall look? Something tht really sets you apart from the other Dakota's on the road? 4x4 look? Lowrider? Or just a couple things to make your Dak feel more like yours?

There's a lot we can suggest, but we need to know the look you want.

Thanks,

thats a good point intense, i definately want to be different than everyone else on the road and have always wanted to be the biggest on the road, but for fuel concerns i have the 4cyl. so im not sure that a lift and tires would necessarily be the way to go. im not a huge fan of lowriders though. haha, im kinda confused here aren't i? im really just open to any suggestions that you guys have.

Well, since it sounds like you prefer the 4x4 look, have you thought about chrome accessories?

Here's a page which will show you some of the chrome accessories from Mopar.

If this type of thing doesn't strike your fancy, let me know ;-)

you should make your truck into a step side truck like i am planning to do this summer. it looks really cool and it is very unique to your truck. i am planning to do it to my 1990 ext cab dakota. i just turned 16

Well.. I just got my truck too! Since it came with a soft tonneau cover, I didn't have to do that, thank goodness. I also had the bedliner sprayed and the underbody Ziebarted... dayuum Indiana winters... and their chemical snow melters! They basically can WRECK your ride over time.

And here was the things I got/plan to get and the order which I was going to get them...

1st... Bug Deflector and Window Vents (yeah I know many people think they are tacky, but hell... the other day a bug hit me on the highway and I swear he left a 6 inch splat on my windshield. The side vents are for letting the windows down and letting the big thirsty V8 get a rest from using the A/C....LOL

2nd... K&N Drop in Filter. Yeah, I know it is not the "full Filtercharger kit", but for the money it is better than the OEM paper filters. I didn't buy the 4x4 for it's speed, but that thirsty V8 convinced me that I need to do whatever I can to get some better gas mileage from somewhere...

3rd... Car/Truck alarm. Couple this with the fact that my truck didn't have power windows and locks (go figure... I guess the previous owner was paranoid about those things or something) I am going to use the alarm to essentially make an aftermarket power door lock, plus I am gonna have the benefit of remote starting for those cold sub zero days in the winter....BRRRRR!!!!!

4th... Car Stereo. Hey, it's better to sound good than to look good sometimes... so I am gonna have to get the stereo in check. I figure the truck is good lookin' on it's own, but I have to have my "in cab" entertainment.

5th... Nerf Bars. Since I have the 4x4, Nerf bars will help the "vertically challenged" enter the vehicles...(heh). Anyway... since they are mostly cosmetic, I can wait on those.

6th... Grill Inserts. Basically, I want a "functional" insert that can keep rocks out of the radiator. I find it ludicrous that Dodge left the mouth of the Dak wide open like that without some form of protection. I guess they wanted it to breathe, but it scares me that my A/C radiator sits about a foot off the ground and right in front of an open bottom grill. I sure do hope I don't catch a rock before I have a chance to get an insert.

and Finally, if I get everything done, I will look at some more "performance mods", but I am not all that hot on that idea. It's just a thought.

Anyway... good luck on your truck. I know I have been having a blast in mine!

There are alot of things you can do, but having a 4 cylinder limits performance mods. First of all there is nothing better then good sounding exhuast. And that is impossible to get with a 4 cylinder. I will tell you the thing i have done to my truck. I have a 97 4x4 dakota with a 318. The first thing i did was put bigger tires on it, BFG makes a 33x10.50 All Terrain tire that will fill up the fenderwell just right. Next i put small Lund running boards on it and a hard fiberglass bed cover. Under the bed cover, the bedliner is all carpet. I have a fiberglass roll pan with 2 chamber flowmaster exhuast running out through the roll pan. Nothing will dress it up like light covers. I put the cut out ram head over the tail lights and hade them painted the same as the truck. Performance wise there is a evergreen airaid intake with a K&N filter. I put 4/11 gears in it for hauling my trailer. It also has a Transgo shift kit and a performance modular chip in it. All togeter it pushes about 285 horsepower. So if you want performance there is alot of things to do. But if you want looks, there is even more you can do.

Wheels. Start with wheels.

Nothing sets the personality of your ride better than a set of fine wheels, and there's about a billion (or so) choices.

Well that depends. What do you want to do with your truck? Offroad? Street Machine? The answers will be more precise to what you are looking for if you would specify what your plans are....

And, what model/model year did you buy?

Indianapolis...

I'm originally from Florida, but I moved up here 8 years ago... before that, I had NEVER even seen snow (except on TV). Now I HATE it.

If it weren't for the fact that the job market is slow...I probably would've gotten the hell outta here.
