Subject: Work around the backspacing?

Message:
Is there any way we can work around the backspacing that is required by fabtech? The 3.75 caused my wheel bearings to blow and was the cause to many of my problems in the past. I know stock rims would rub on the a-arms but if we got larger rims, would it work?

getting a larger rim mght work but it depends on what part of the rim is rubbing.

the only other option I could see would be to due what I did and get 2inch daystar spacers, which lift the front 3inches. I have aftermarket 17's with the same backspaceing as stock.

the only thing with the spacers is I lost alot of downward travel. thats why the fabtech has new arms. but the offroading I do is mud so it doesn't realy effect the way I offroad.

dang thats alot, my rims and tires are currently for sale because I want some 15x10's with the backspaceing that caused your problems. the rims and tires I have are 17-8 with 5.5 for backspaceing.

you have spacers right? I was thinking of getting some of these.

try removing the spacer and useing the factory rim try to install it and see exactly were it rubs on the lip of the rim. going to a 17 or 18 should correct this problem.

chax to repeat you could go to 4" backspacing , the only rims are the 15x7 589 eagles the 15x8 are 3.25 I found some welds are 15x8 and are 3 5/8 backspacing 1/4 of an inch should not make that much difference , but from 3 1/4 to 4" is 3/4 " diff , now I'm pissed . Im thinking I should have gotten the 15x7 ..................Ohhh and about the bigger rims I just checked out my truck you need like 3" from the 15 up to clear the the ball joint that means you need like 22" rims .....I don't think so ...............

Well, there goes my rim theory. Oh man..what's next for me to research? You think the 15x7 inch rims would make a difference at 4 inch offset?

Tallquad what do you think 1/2" make a diference ??????? I say chax , buy a set of rims instead of the spacers, they are about 80 a piece , sometimes cheaper , I don't like the spacer myself , but in theory it should be the same , did you tell fabtech you were running spacers vs. a rim and what do they think ????? Ask an offroad place ........15x7 4" eagle 589s you could fit up to a 32 some guys say they fit 33s , ask about the spacers ...............

Ohh yeah... I forgot that you were using spacers. That makes a huge difference in off-set!! That could be your biggest problem right there. Chax, you need to get some rims that work without spacers. Even though the Eagle 589's are not 5.5, they are more balanced in design than a stock rim pushed out 2" with a spacer. My 15x10's are almost centered with the hub looking at the front of the truck. Spacers have always caused problems for people, thats why Discount Tire out here won't even touch your car if it has them. They don't want the liability.

4wheelparts.com are having a sale on the eagles I think , they have welds for 175 a piece and get one free , but they have 3 5/8 backspacing which is a 1/4 " to 4" the only one with 4" is the 15x7 589 ................chax why did you put on a body lift if your running only 31's ????that's what I'm running on mine with only the fabtech lift , leave me your mail I'LL send you a pic so you could see what it looks like with the 15x8 3.25 backspacing ...............

Hey river,
I had the body lift put on cuz i was plannin on running 33's but once i got the goodyear mt/r's on at 33x12.5, the ride sucked. So i went down to 31's. I was thinking of getting the steel rims...black rockcrawler for now. I just started my job so when i get the cash flowing, i'll get some slick-lookin rims. Drop me a pix if you don't mind. Thanks man.

Hehe, sorry I lost your sale there Chaximus. I'm sure you can sell those spacers to anybody who doesn't see this thread! ;-)

BTW - I bought my wheels at a local tire place (gotta friend who works there) and the 589's were about 100 bones. Those black rims (American Racing) are probably going to be your cheapest bet and they still look good to me, if you can find them with a good off-set. I'm not too sure where to by online, but I bet you could get the same prices if you ask at your local tire place.

chax you can get those rims at 4wheel parts , like 50 bones a piece , You should wait , around march or so they always hae the 589's on special 4 for 300 , that's how I got mine ...........just get 4" offset or the 3.75 , I agree with tall , they look good also those rims ..........hawkeye and dan grubber run those and they look nice .......... Thinking about the spacer , all the force ( lateral movement ) is on the middle of the hub or rotor when on spacers , but with the rim , the force is spread out of the middle to the whole rim 15" even bigger with tires , on the spacer is just the circumference of the spacer thats absorbing the force ........... MAY THE FORCE BE WITH YOU hahahah ................
