Well...here i am again listing, yet, another problem my kit gave me. As we all know, fabtech 3 inch suspension kit requires 3.75. However, this backspacing puts a sh@$load of stress on our wheel bearings and mine blew last week. Their theory for why: My Offset. Doh!!!
It's at the shop right now, and i am at home, truckless, and seriously thinking of removing the kit. I am spending more on repairs than fun these days.

PS: If anyone wants my truck....make an offer ;)

www.rit.edu/~cmh7456/4x2andfriends/dakota/tires

take a peek and take it from me if u want. It's getting hard to afford.

That sucks man. Well it could be bad luck. How many miles does it have? I would like to know if anyone at Fabtech verified if the Dakota can handle that back spacing. Are wheel bearings designed to run with an exact back spacing? Try to find out which ones burned up. I'm thinking that if the back spacing killed them it would have probably been the outer bearings, right? At least wheel bearings are cheap.

My truck only has 32k miles on it...had this kit since 18k. Well, i've heard from my folks at www.mudnuts.org that backspacing that low can put a toll on anyone's front end. It's just too much stress on the parts. I wonder if there is anyway to work around the backspacing? I mean...can we buy like 17 inch rims and still fit them with stock backspacing? Has to be a way......

OK, from my repair bill, wheel bearings are not cheap. They quoted me $555 for repairs.

Holy Sh*t. Thats the worst. Contact Fabtech and tell them what happened. Maybe they need to redesign their A-arm to work with less back spacing. I'm curious about what their response will be.

Since you're only running 31's I'd take off the 3" fabtech and get the 2" kit. Then you won't need the offset anymore. That extra inch is costing you a lot of $$$

I am running 4 inch offset right now with my 2 inch spacers...unless those stock 15x8 alum rims are offseted at 5.5, cuz i got mixed information that they were 6 inches and 5.5 inches. I also ditched my old parts when i moved since i didn't think i would need them. Oh well...thought wrong :(

Wheel bearings!?! Man this is starting to suck really bad. It seems this kit doesn't mix well with your truck. I would just take it off and go back to the factory arms and offset. I bet you could get the arms cheap from a junk yard or maybe try Mopar just for a comparison. Shocks are cheap so thats easy.

I find it hard to believe that your rims would wear out the bearings this soon! I've used the 589's with the same offset on my Jeeps for years without problems. I would hope that our Dakotas would be at least the same quality as a stock Jeep! I have about 20,000 miles on my set-up with no problems (knock on wood)... hmmm. You must do some SERIOUS off-roading! hehe... Chaximus, you need a stadium/baja racer!lol!

Seriously, man... I wish there was something that would help out your truck. I say put it back to stock (leave the body lift on) and try that for while. I'd rather be driving than not! Good luck!

same here tall I have about 5k on mine and so far it's ok , I was thinking the same thing about the offset of the jeeps and also all trucks that have a lift have different backspacing on their rims , ford , chevy etc ..... Yea chaximus 5.5 is the stock backspacing ..............Oh you need springs also , if your going back to stock ..........

I've read in an offroad magazine that lower back spaceings will cause wheel bearings to go out quicker due to stress. petersons I beleive.

but I don't think they should have gone out as quick as they did for chaximus.

JUST CURIOUS ARE YOU DRIVING THROUGH WATER DEEPER THAN YOUR AXLES? IF YOU ARE THAT COULD BE YOUR PROBLEM. ANYTIME MY JEEP CJ WAS IN WATER I WOULD HAVE TO REPACK MY BEARINGS OR THEY WOULD FRY REAL QUICK, THIS MAY BE YOUR PROBLEM TOO. I ALSO HAVE A DAKOTA I WANT TO LIFT THEY ARE THE BADDEST LITTLE TRUCK OUT THERE!

OK, i need some help. I'm looking for a set of rims for my dakota with 3.75 or 4.00 inch backspacing. 4 wheel parts only have a set of eagle rims with my bolt pattern for $92 each. That's a little too high for me considering the fact that i have to pay for my wheel bearing problem. Can anyone assist me in finding a rim or is anyone interested in selling theirs?

I wheeled my jeep just as often as my dakota...my dakota would break in some areas...while the jeep would leak. Guess it's a jeep thing :)
