Subject: Solid axle conversion for early daks

Hello all, I have an '87 dak that has a combination of 3" body and 2" suspension lift in it, running 32x12.50 mudders, I want to ditch the IFS and go to a solid axle, I have seen an early dakota running a pre '85 toyota axle up front, diff is on the correct side, looks to be leaf springs up front as well. Trying to keep things on the cheap side, not cheap quality, just not break the bank expensive. I get tire barking whenever the front suspension flexes down, like a sudden dip in the road, I plan to go to 31x10.50 tires on 8" rims to get the tires back under the flairs and the rubbing when turning and flexing the suspension. When money allows I will join the site and get some pictues loaded up, you dont see many early dakotas lifted up and in good shape. Cheers, Mike 1987 Dakota, 5" lift, 32" tires, lock right locker in rear, 3.9L, Bosch aux lights, Whelen Edge Strobe Bar, 52K orginal miles.

i just put a solid axle on my 94 dodge dakota and it only cost about 550$ and that includes the new rims i had to buy. with the axle and the springs i got about 7 inches of lift, and probably 30 inches of downtravel. i had to build the steering out of other steering parts and some metal tubing. i bent it on a 50 ton press. works good though. its really redneck.
