Subject: I'm trying to lift a 1997 2wd dak

I know it's better to lift a 4wd instead of a 2wd. But I was
wondering if you could put 33x15.50x15 tires on a 3" body lift
on my 1997 2wd dak. I did not lift my truck yet but I was
wondering if it would rub or if it would even fit. I just need some
answers please help I don't no what to do

Just a 3" body lift on a 2wd will not allow
clearance for that specific size tire. I am unsure
about the same lift on a 4wd, you might be okay.

The main issue you would run into is the width of
those tires. I had a 3" BL and 3" susp lift on my
99 2wd with 33x12.5x15 and still had rubbing after
wheel well trimming. Good luck

Hi. Just lifted my 2000 4.7 4x4 ClubCab dakota with the higher-quality FORGED torsion-bar keys (beware the cheaper ones can simply crack) up front. I wanted the higher-than-stock tires, so am running 32inch tires (265/75-R16). My original OEM tire size was 31x10.5x15 since mine was a 4x4. It originally came with 15inch rims/tires like all Dakotas prior to 2002, but I wanted the newer 16in Dakota OEM wheels from 02-04. I have about 3/8" clearance between back edge of front bumper. (tires are the excellent BFG AllTerrain T/As, very square profile). I guarantee if I went to a 33inch tire, OR went to a wider than 10.5inch width tire, I would have to cut the bumper and such. I love the 33inch tire idea, but just spent $900+ on the 4 new tires, so will reevaluate going wider/bigger with next set...Good luck on your project! Stay Dodge-tuff! I have heard that a 4" lift is a minimum lift to get the 33in tires under the Gen2 Dakota (97-04), and you can see some in the off-road magazines. On the dakota-durango forum there is a guy with a yellow one that put 33in tires, and it looks solid. But he is found posting about 5.7Hemi swap into his Dakota 4x4, one of the pioneers of that swap. I've had my Dakota since 2004, and just love the tight handling, now have 252,000mi on it. Beautiful midsize truck. Later Daks just dont have our Gen2 look, inside or out.
