Just wondering what my best bet for tires is? I have a 98 3.9 Dakota 4x4. I go offroading every once in a while but not that often. Will 33's work with just a 3" lift and is a V6 enough for them???

Im about to put tires on my 97' club cab 4x4. Ive researched every tire on the market. I live in south Louisiana (where swampers are made) so I went to check some out. Even the employees at swamper say they suck. Im really looking hard at the Goodyear Wrangler MT/R, or the Dunlop Mud Rover (awesome looking tire). I also want to put 33" on my truck w/ a 3" lift and would like to know if they fit?

Yeah 33's will fit with some rubbing but u can crank ur torsion bars up front to get rid of that rubbing. I, myself, will always recommend BFG Mudders because they absolutely RULE in mud. I have a 2wd and i keep up with 4x4's easily. My buddy has a yukon and runs a new set of MT/R's...he had nothing but good comments about them. So there are two suggestions. These are probably the two most popular mud tires on the market, along with Pro-Comp's Mudders too.

HEY I HAD THE DUNLOP MUD ROVERS ON MY TRUCK FOR A LITTLE OVER 30000 MILES, BY THE END THEY WERE PRETTY WORE OUT. THEY WORKED REALLT WELL IN DEEP MUD. INFACT, I ONLY BURIED MY TRUCK ONCE, AND THAT WAS IN SAND. THE ONLY DISADVANTAGE WAS THAT THEY WERE LOUD AS HELL, BUT WHAT DO YOU EXPECT FROM A MUD TIRE.

hey...

I run Goodyear MT-R's... they are awesome, I love those tires! I have zero compliants, witness the MT-R's in action..

Dont get the Dunlop Radial Mud Rovers - I had them before, they were terrible! They get out of balance very easily on my truck, and when they get older the treads easily became uneven, even with rotation. If you are looking for a mud-terrain tire, get Goodyear MT-R's. If you dont like them then choose the BFG MT's but be warned, they dont have much mileage in them as the MT-R's does.

Body lifts take a full day of installation (i.e. 6-8 hours) Find your shop hourly labor quote and multiply it by that time (i.e. 8 hrs times $40 a hour = $320)

Body lifts are easy to install, given you have the right tools (air impact wrench & sockets, maybe a welder if your kit requires something to be welded)

www.4wheelparts.com has a lift kit for your '98 for $182.95

This is where i got my 3 inch PA lift. Cheapest price i saw so far, until i came across a $150 kit somewhere (forget the site). Yukoneer is probably right with the estimate on installation, but if u decide to do it yourself, it's not that hard. I don't have much knowledge on installation of lift kits, but i managed to do the kit myself. Took 12 hours and one little mishap. But it's up and running good.

I think everyone that was going for cheap rims that don't look bad got the 589 eagle's...like mine. Paid $320 shipped to my door on a sale at www.4wheelparts.com.

I'm running Goodyear AT/S's. Excellent on the road...haven't really tested them off-road yet.

I had 35 inch Goodyear MT/R's on my old Tahoe. They
were hands down the best tires I have ever owned. I
had BFG Mud Terrains before I had the Goodyears and
I hated the BFG's. If you are looking for a good mud tire
that is quiet on the street and gets good mileage, go
with the Goodyears. It only took me about 3 and a half
hours to install a body lift on my old Tahoe. I know this
is a Dodge site and I am talking about my old Tahoe,
but a body lift is fairly easy to install and you would be
pleased with the Goodyears. I got my 35's from Sams
Club/Wal-Mart for $157.00 a piece. Good luck

For rims I recommend the American Racing Baja (see my profile for a pic). They work great with my 33's and don't stick out as far as the Eagle 589's. Only $105/each from Summit Racing.

For wheels, the Eagles and the Bajas are both good looking wheels at a decent price. As far as tires, he said he goes offroad "not that often" and everyone recommends a mud tire? Sure the mud tires look the coolest, but if you hardly go off road do yourself a favor and get an AT. The MT's will wear alot quicker and the noise will drive you nuts. There's some really good looking AT's out there. The BFG KO's look good, so do Yoko Geolander AT+II's. There's several more, those are just my favorites. I just took off my old BFG's and replaced them with the Yoko's and I love them. Very quiet and they look great. Go to tirerack.com and look at the AT's available, they carry just about every brand. You can enlarge the tread patterns to see which looks the best to you, then read the reviews to see if they're any good.

Oops, I got distracted and forgot you asked if 33's will work with a 3" lift. If you are changing wheels, you won't have any problems. With stock wheels, the 33X12.5 will rub the frame and maybe the inner fender lining, but you'll be OK with the bodywork. BFG makes a 33X10.5 that should work better with stock wheels. When you order the new wheels, tell them the tires and the truck they'll be used with so they can get the back spacing correct.

I am running the 285/75/R16 Bridgestone Dueller AT's, which are 11" wide and love em. No frame rubbing at all with the Baja rim. Just another tire suggestion.

The hands down best mud tire i have ever used is the super swamper bogger. They will get through the most vicious bogs around. If your looking for a more streetable tire that still kick ass in the mud, go with the Thornbirds. I run thornbirds on my rig and only have the complaint of the road noise. If you want the best all around street and off road tire, I would definitely go with the BFG mudd terrains they wear excellent and hold their own off road. Also they have hardly any road noise. As far as the Goodyear MT/R's they suck. My dad runs those on his rig and they get slicked over in they mud, wear like a bitch(theres no way your gettin 20k off them), and they have a rediculous drone on the highway considering their type. Since you rarely go off road, i would no doubt go with the BFG's.

Goodyear MTR's. I had them on my Jeep as well as BF Muds. No comparison. Less road nice and better on ice. I now have them on my Dakota as well. I have 35" radial swampers on my Yukon that will get MTR's when there worn out. My second choice would be the BF All Terrain if I didn't want the aggressive look.

I have a '96 SLT - I am looking at what tires to put on. I do mostly street driving and would like to put a larger tire than the 235's that I have now. I am thinking either 31x10.50's or 265's in a Goodyear. Do you have any suggestions?

I have an 03 QC with a 360, and I will say that BFG's are expensive and only good if you don't mind buying new tires every 20K. Dayton Timberline MT's are awsome tires. I have around 10K on mine and they still look like they did when I installed them. They look mean and are alot quieter than BFG's or Thornbirds.
