just figured you have the fabtech, so you might be able to help, but I was going to put the 2" coils in and also the 1.5" rear add-a-leafs, do I need to change my shocks to a longer one? or can I run the stock shocks with this setup?

thanks!

I think the Fabtech 2" coils come with shocks don't they? If not, I would get some new ones anyway just because its easier all at once and you can get a better shock like Rancho or something close. 2" is just enough to make those stock shocks blow after some heavy off-roading.

The rear, on the other hand, you can leave stock. In fact, I'm still using the stock shocks and haven't had any problems. I have the rear Fabtech shocks sitting in the garage. I figure once they wear out I'll add the new ones. ;-)

TALLQUAD,
If I install the Daystar 2" coil spacers, does the same hold true? Or can I get away with the stock shocks for a while? How about the stock rims, I have the 16X8 that came with the handling package. Will they be OK?

Thanks

Yes, its the same. It doesn't matter which method you use, 2" is 2" more than stock. I can't tell you for a fact that the stock shocks won't work (i'm not an engineer) but from my experience its a good idea to replace them with a more aggressive and correct size shock. Worse case, you blow the stock shock if you try it!

The factory rims are fine! As long as you don't get the upgraded Fabtech a-arms.

I didn't think so. If you need instructions, then you might not wanna try it, hehe... It's the easiest part of the lift.

hey guys,
I asked Daystar about the coil spacers, they recomended the 1.5" over the 2" spacers. I have seen some sites that refer to the 2" spacers as 2 1/2 " spacers. Does anyone think the 1 1/2" are a safer bet?

Thanks

When you get the leaf kit there will be detailed instructions that help a lot. But in short, you need to take off the plate that holds the springs to the axle, take out a bolt that runs through the leafs, then take the first (lowest) leaf off and add the new leaf in between. So leaf #2 will become #3 and the new leaf becomes #2, make sense? This is looking from the bottom up (top being the biggest/longest leaf). Note: you MUST have the truck on stands and the axle on a jack that can move (ie, hydrualic jack). You'll want the axle resting all the way down so there is no load on the springs, which means you need to lift the truck up untill the wheels come off the ground.

After you add the new leaf, you'll put a new longer bolt that runs in the center of the leafs in and put leaf #1 back on, then put the plate back on and tighten the nuts. Like I said, though, the instructions will have details that I may have missed and will be easier to understand than my quick overview! :-)
