Subject: Body lift questions for the experienced
IP: Logged

Message:
I have finally come to the conclusion that I want to get a body lift instead of a suspension lift. There has been too much controversy over the 2001+ suspension lifts and the extra 'stuff' hanging down looks pretty weak and negates the clearance issue. But now I have questions about the body lift. I am interested in the PA, but its only 3 inches.
1) Is there any out there that are 3.5-4.5 inches?
2) Do I really need to relocate the hitch...it looks like if I move it up too it looks weak, and whats wrong with a 3.5inch gap between the bumper and the hitch (any pix)? I still need to tow!
3) How hard is it to install (I am very mechanically inclined)?
4) Will the 3 inch lift give me enough room for 33's without cutting any fenderwalls?
5) Any hints tips or extra stuff to buy?
6) On the PA lift, does it come with new rear bumper brackets or are you just drilling new holes and 'ni&&er rigging' it?

Bjlindsey-
Did you have to do any welding? The guys from PA mentioned something about welding bed supports and welding a 4wd shifter (I didn't know we had anything like that, that its all electronic). I can do anything to a truck this side of welding. I have only done a little welding in my day and I don't want to start with my baby.

While I'm at it...if anyone out there had a shop install a PA lift, how much did it cost? (gotta look at all my options)

If you have the dash mounted 4x4 switch then you don't have to worry about the welding on the shifter. The bed "overload" blocks are optional but if you feel you need them then just JB weld them in place.
No welding needed.

I didn't see anywhere in the instructions on what to do with my gear shift (I have a 5 spd).

I guess I'll just put it in neutral while doing the lift then take a look at what needs to be done. I would have thought they would have said something about welding in an extension or heating it and bending it like what TallQuad did.

Now the only questions I have is there any modications (welding, etc)for the auto tranny shifter? I mean, is it cable (probably no mods) or is it mechanical (probably mods or welding neccessary). Its easier to ask than to actually go look, LOL.
And, do the optional 'overload' blocks come with the kit? (I'll probably use JB weld on them like 4wDakota says).
To interject on ian1872- I did get an email from PA, and it started all these questions, like I didn't know about the 'overload' blocks and they mentioned the 4wd linkage welding that threw a wrench into the mess.

The kit includes a bracket to hold/reroute the auto tranny cable.
