Jumpin hills and all, its great!! You guys shouldnt base your analysis of one company off of one bad experience. The lift is great!

The problem lift was a 2000+. Truckin' SHOULD be able to do a pre 2000 lift. That's nothing new. I'm sure bigdakota's 98 lift probably is much better than the 2000+ offering by Truckin'. Perhaps Truckin' can get a testamonial from a 2000+ truck owner with their lift. There has only been one so far and he wasn't as happy as bigdakota.

well ya see, they had my truck for two weeks, putting it on, taking it off, fixing things to make them better and better, trying to perfect it. The company is new at this, so give them a chance, but I can tell you one thing, they have the 6.5 lift down pact.

They shouldn't have had too much trouble making up a lift for the pre-2000 Dak. They had all kinds of lifts to copy. ;o)

born2steel21 - Don't forget about the red 6.5" lift that someone from DD.com did. I forgot his name already but the red one in all the pictures is the only other 2000+ Dakota I know with that lift and he's been having more problems then I have with it.

Remember that Tuff Country has a 5.5" lift out for that model & year... Infact alot of the bracketry up front looks just like the one from the Tuff Country lift. The only thing that looks differen't is that TC used a differen't Torsion bar plate and Truckin used a Full Drop down... Personally I'd prefer a New plate or pork chop for my Torsion Bars because it gives more groud clearance.

I also don't doubt the fact that they tried extra hard for to get your lift correct the first time. I'm guessing that they refered you to this site to say some good stuff about them because I don't remember seing you here berfore. That might be because I didn't talk with you directly though.

I'm glad your lift worked out great.. I just wish that they had great customer service for all there customers. I worked extra hard for them and didn't complain once until a month had passed with no progress on my truck.

It's also alot easier to correct things when the same person is taking the measurements that is correcting the parts.. There were just to many parties involved in trying to make my lift. They needed to get it right the first time.. and didn't. That's the bottom line.

Again I'm glad your truck worked great.. I hope that all there lifts turn out great from now on.. I just hope that all the problems I had with mine made them realize that they had to change DRAMATICALLY! It looks like that have done just that.. But you still won't see me recomending them for a long time to come even after I see good results.

like I said in an earlier post...truckin built and installed this lift, fixing the mistakes as they went...what about poor joe shmoe who tries to install this lift himself...or the other guy who has a 4x4 shop try to install it and they can't figure it out how the damn thing is supposd to be installed because there are flaws in the design...but you wouldn't know that would you because truckin installed the lift, not you...so after they installed your lift (which looks great, off course) and fixed the mistakes as they went, your going to say that its a fantastic lift that is easy to install, so suckers break out your checkbooks...get real!!!

I haven't looked into gears much seeing as the lowest gears you can get for 2000+ daks are 3.92. If you're gonna be running 36's, personally I would go with 4.56. Hell, I'd go with 4.56's on MY truck if I could! lol

Blizzard's right...if your going to go with new gears you might as well go with 4.56's...especially with 36's. You can go with 4.11's to...its all personal preference.

Hey BigDakota

Your truck looks sweet man! What size tires do you have on their now? It is going to look even better with 35s or higher.

I was going to do the tuff country lift this month but I've run into some money trouble so I'm going to have to wait but keep us updated on how the truck runs with the new lift. Now it's a toss up "one good story" and "one bad story". So my question is whose next to buy it??????

I think you should go with 4:56 gears if you are going with 35s or higher. One other guy on this board, Scott, had 4:56 and he was running 38s.

Hey whats up guys, I still have the 33 12.5 15's that i ran with my 3inch body lift, but i have plans for 36 mickeys real soon, went offroading again this weekend, on sunday, it was sweet, truck runs really solid. No noises or weird feelings. Where is a good place to get gears for cheap, i really dont wanna spend too much on them, any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

Shop around and make sure you get good quality , name brand gears. You definitely don`t want to skimp on gears with big tires and lots of torque.
I had 4.56s with my 38s and would highly recommend them. When I switched them out to sell the truck I could not even notice a big change in performance with the 3.55s back in , sounds odd , but it`s true.I don`t know if you`de be able to notice much of a change with any taller of a gear. The biggest change was on the highway , as the truck wants to jump in and out of OD with the stock ones.
BTW I had Presision Gears not sure where I bought them from though. I know I ordered them from one of the 4X4 mags.
Your truck looks good , now when some `00 and up kits are tried and tested MAYBE I`ll consider lifting my `02.

Look at Summit racing, they generally have gears at realatively cheap.

Truck looks real good, the tires are the only negative comment i would have on it, but since you're getting new ones anyway...then i guess you covered everything!

My only question now is does Truckin usually devote an entire page to every suspension lift they do...or was yours special for some reason...i ask just cause i find it weird that they would make a big deal out of a lift on a 98 since lifts on them have been around for awhile...or are you the first for the pre-2000's?

Anyways...nice truck.

Just to let you know. We will be doing a full page on every truck that the owner sends us pics or is here at our shop. We will put whatever the truck owner wants the world to know on the page. It is the only way to show people out there actual trucks in the real world with our kits installed.

why don't you do a full write up of knobbyman's lift? you could put all the pics of the brackets and sh!t laying on the ground. hell, in the background you could have the installer peeling out as he bails from the job. you could show all the holes misalligned.
so the owner can put any messages he wants to be known by the readers? i bet knobby has some great feedback for your customers!

i work at a 4x4 shop but i drive a 2wd dak (i know it's wierd but oh well), but anyways we always go to Randy's Ring and Pinion. they sell great quality gears. trust me they are! we use them in rock crawlers. if your interested their number is 1-800-291-8842 their website is www.ring-pinion.com best of luck. i geuss i need to give my view on your lift..... sorry man the drop brackets basicly do nothing for groud clearest man. it just looks like an over size body lift minus the body and frame being seperated. to me man it just doesn't look right, but that's me and it's not my truck. by the way what was the total of the labor and lift?
