Subject: 3:92 or 4:10 with 33x12.5x15

I have the stock 3:55s in my 99 Dak. For those of you for have switched over and are running the bigger tires 33x12.5x15 or 33x12.5x16; are you happy with 3:92s or do you think 4:10s would be better? I do 95% city driving and I'm planning on putting in new gears to accomodate that tire. I know I don't have too switch but even with my 32x11.5x15 I noticed the sluggish power right away and it'll get worse with 33s.

Any opinions?

If your going to do the switch I would personally go to 4.10's.

Right now I'm running. 33's with the stock 4.7 and 3.55 gears. I wish I could run 4.10's.

I have a 98 dak with a 3.55 8 1/4 rear end. The smallest gear I could find was a 3.92 gear. If you can find a smaller gear I sure would like to know where you found it. I would love to have a 4.10 gear for my 33's. Greg

I was just wondering if any of you have a Standard tranny. I have 4.7L with a 5-speed 4X4 with 3:92. I'm thinking of going up to 33X12.5X15. What do you think?

StealWings: There are a number of places that have gears as low as 4.56 for 97-99 Dakotas. I know Randys Ring and Pinion carries them for a good price. Not sure what the others charge for them.

I agree with Knobby. If you can, go with the 4.10's.

I did the math on all this before I did a gear swap several months ago...unfortunately 4.10's aren't available for the front end of 2000+ Daks so I had to go with 3.92's. Anyway, 33's with 3.92's give roughly the same overall gearing as 31's with 3.55's. So if you're going to spend the money, go with 4.10's. to get it a little lower than stock. In my opinion my stock 3.55's with 31's were on the verge of being too tall, only made worse when I switched to 32's.

I'm running 33x12.50x15s and 4.10s. I'm happy and wouldn't want anything less if you would want to ever tow anything.

Stealwings, I have the same axle you do and I got my 4.10s from Reider Racing. Randy's Ring and Pinion also had them and they both could get 4.56s for me.

i have 3.92 gearing and am running 33x1250's with a 5 speed. 1-4 are fine, but my 5th is very lacking at lower 2000-2500 rpm, i'm gonna go with 4.10 when i get the money.
