Subject: lift and wheel backspacing (kindof long)
IP: Logged

Message:
I am getting ready to install a 2" bodylift on my 93 4wd extended cab and have a few questions that I am hoping the vast knowledge here can answer:
I have the crappy 6" wide wheels and I know I need new ones with the lift. What is the backspacing of the factory rims? I am thinking about getting the 15x8's from the Gen3 Dak/Durango and run 32x11.5, will this work?
Also, would SLIGHT torsion bar cranking allow me to fit 33's? I have read mixed feelings about doing this and with 148k miles on my truck I don't want to do anything that would really hurt it. Thanks!

I have 33”s on my ’88 with 3” body, 4” suspension and cranked torsion bars and I rub slightly full lock. Rim off-set and width have a great deal to do with it. With the right back spacing and a narrow enough rim & tire, you may be able to fit a 33” with slight rubbing.

Thanks for the info Walt.
Going along those lines, if I am going to be using my truck for daily commuter with some off-roading, is tire heighth or width better? I am going between 32x11.5's and 33x10.5's. I want to keep the tires tucked into the wheel wells as much as possible, which means keeping the backspacing close to stock.
I would just hate to order a wheel/tire combo and have it not fit, but I want to get the biggest tire I can. None of the tire or off-road places around here (Detroit) have a clue about Dakotas, as to what I can fit on mine.
