I agree w/ Dakotamaxx Goodyear A/T's are AWSOME tires.

I'm running the Goodyear MT/R's they are also AWSOME tires I went threw a mud hole I wouldn't have thought about trying in 4x2 w/ a broken transfer case and ended up I was in 4x2 and I didn't even come close to having any sort of slipping.

The Pro-Comp XTerrains are also nice tires.

Basically.. Depends what you want them for.

Mostly Street go with the A/T's
Mostly Mud go with the M/TR's
50/50 I'd stick with the XTerrains. But be realize that both of the last 2 sound loud on the street.

The XTerrains are actually louder then the NEW M/TR's.

Hey Knobby I read your last post. You said the MT/R's are for mud and for 50/50 driving you recommend the X-Terrains. Then you say the MT/R's are quieter. So then why do you recommend the x-terrains for the street use?

I've been doing tons of research on tires and have talked to a lot of people. Here's the impression I get:
Procomp MT's last longer and quieter than BFG M/T's
Goodyear MT/R's quieter then Procomps
MT/R's grip better than BFG and Procomp.

My choices I've narrowed down to are:
BFG A/T> Last long but I'm worried about the performance in mud
Dunlop RV Radial Rovers>A little better in mud IMHO but don't last long
GY MT/R> Wear good, great in mud, noisiest of the 3

I don't drive much < 6000 miles/year
so wear is not so much an issue. I do offroad some and when I do its in LA gumbo mud so I need something pretty aggressive. I love the MT/R's and have heard great things about them but my only hangup is that every mud tire I've experienced has shaken the hell out of the truck. I don't mind the humming so much as the shaking. Mainly my experience is with Dunlop mud rovers and BFG M/T's. The steering wheel shakes constantly, even with a fresh balance and alignment. It's pretty agrevating on a long trip.

So to get to my real question: In the little bit of time you've driven your truck how has the shaking been with the MT/R's?

Thanks
Corey

PS- Quadman, I know you're biased to the Goodyears but how are your MT/R's, any shaking/vibrating?

Reason I said the MT/R's for mud & the XTerrains for Street & off-road.

Is because the MT/R's are a mud tire the XTerrains are more of a agressive all-terrain tire.

The MT/R's should (I haven't put them up against eachother YET!) do better in mud then the XTerrains.

Also the MT/R's feel like softer rubber then the XTerrains. Maybe that was just because I've ridden my MT/R's and the XTerrains were brand new.

The XTerrains roll better on the road then the MT/R's do. I'm not sure why they are louder that might go away after a week or so when the sticky from the stickers gets worn off.

I think the XTerrains will last longer on the road then the MT/R's would also.

Tire wear isn't that big of an issue with my choice because as little as I drive my truck (I have a 2002 Ford Supercab XLT for work and around town driving) it will take like 3-4 years to wear out even the softest tires.
How much vibration do you get with the MT/R's? Any steering wheel pulsation?

THANKS FOR ALL THE REPLIES.I WAS LEANING TOWARDS THE XTERRAINS BUT WASN'T SURE HOW THEY WOULD HANDLE ON ROAD.FROM WHAT I'VE READ IN THE DIFFERENT POSTINGS, THEY SEEM TO FIT A DAK WITH A 3 INCH BODY LIFT A BIT BETTER(LITTLE OR NO RUBBING)OR DOES THIS HAPPEN TO BE THE SAME ALL 305'S?

4wDakota - The M/TR's have alittle big of noise and a very slight vibration when first starting but after your over about 5mph you don't even notice it.

Wallis - Nope All tires are different are differen't actual sizes even though they say they are the same metric or SAE sizes. If you go to the manufactures website they will give you the true size of the tire. But keep in mind they might have them mounted on differen't sized wheels ie 15x8's or 15x10's if it's the same tire mounted on 15x8's it's going to be taller and narrower then if it was mounted on 15x10's.

I think the XTerrains are actually abit skinnier and maybe a SLIGHT!! bit taller them my MT/R's but that's compairing a 33x12.5x15 to a 305x70x16 also.

Hope that answered it for ya.

After much consideration I've decided to go with BFG ALL_TERRAIN T/A KO's.They don't come in 305/70 R16 so I'll probbably go with 285/75 R16(32.8x11.2)they should fit without a problem.BFG also has a 295/75 R16(33.4x11.6)I think I'll need more than 3 inches of lift to fit those,am I correct in that assumption?Any comments on this?

If everything goes according to plan I should be riding higher by july 4th.

Dunno, I think they're still smaller and skinnier than the 305's, at least by numeric designation.

I have 305/70 R16 GY MTR's and love them. I have commuted 60 miles a day with them for the last 1.5 years and can barely see any wear. Sound doesn't bother me at all. Sweet tire, great in the snow and rain.

Jetsfan - Did you change your gears to accomadate the new tires? If not, how does the truck perform with the bigger tires? Also, do you get a lot of vibration/shaking when driving?

No, I didn't change my gears. I have 3.55 and the tires dramatically reduced my power. I need to drive with my overdrive off on the highway. My new gibson exhaust and K&N cold air intake have helped a little. I'll probably downgrade to a 285/75 or a 32" tire next time to get some power back.

It still has power but on slow inclines it doesn't know what gear to get into, that's whay with the overdrive off it adds more power.

No vibration or shaking that I can complain about. The tires are much more rugged than the stock ones, so at first it felt odd, but I'm totally used to them now so I can't even remember how the truck drove when I bought it in 04.

So how much lift did yo need to fit the 305's. Do they rub at all in the back and how much do they rub in the front.

Installed a PA 3" bodylift. Rubbed a bit in the front so I cranked my torsion bars about 1". Now they only rub a very small amount at full turn.

Back tires don't rub at all.
