Well...here are the newest photos. For some of you who have seen my Dakota in the past, will notice a bit of a change in style. Also the new shoes are one and have gotten a bit muddy as well. A walk in the park with the new shoes...

Nice truck. Those look like 15x8 AE489 rims? How's the rubbing/trimming with your current combo? 3"/33"/and rims with 3.25" back spacing. Are your torsion bars cranked? Sorry for all the questions. Thanks for any info.

Well..ill take it one question at a time here:
1) Yes 15x8 Eagle 589, 3.75" backspaceing
2)Rubbing...Yes
3) Trimming...Yes. Im finishing up the trimming stage later today. But with the Factory Flares...the rear part rubs pretty harsh. Im cutting 4" off (up the next mounting bolt hole) to make them fit. In the front, the outside bumper skirt. Doest hit too bad...unless under flex. So..out comes the cut off saw again and ill trim some more...Ill post pics of the a bit later.
4) Torsion Bars Cranked? Yes..but not much..only about 3/4". I had themcranked before the tires and wasnt about to crank them any more.
5) Anything else I can help you with?

Walt - I quite my job at Sikorsky. They started treating me like $^!%..so I quit. I moved back home, and now work as a Police/Fire/EMS Dispatcher.
Im back in the groove again so you'll see me around more now.

Cadetdak -
On Road -- the wander a little bit, not too bad. A bit on the noisy side, but so is my exhaust.
Off Road -- AWESOME. Havent't had a whole lot of time on them yet, but first impressions are good. Ill be doing a good mud run here this weekend that will really tell me how they handle.

Hey Dakota how did you like your old Dunlop Radial Rovers. I had some on my old truck but never got into any deep mud. Right now I'm leaning towards BFG A/T's but would always like suggestions. I'll be upgrading to 33's soon!
Any opinion on the Dunlops vs. BFG.

4wDakota - I loved the Dunlops..I have the mounted on teh factory rims for now..so when I have a cross country trip I can slap them on and have an easy ride. I had them at teh DML BBQ last year in Forestville New York...and they did very well...the video on my site are all from there.take a look and youll see what kind of stuff we went through.
As for teh BFG's...ive never dealt with them...so I dont have any comments on them.

Hawk - It only took a little bit of time to find the right deal of the new shoes. No idea when ill be down. Im doing my best though! If I take the train down again i might have to put on some "ricer 14" rims with rubber bands on them to get the truck low enough to fit though!!

Hey, Dakota, nice truck man i went a little higher with mine i still only have 33's but there 33x15.50-15 Super Swamper TSL SX's. i went 3" body and 3" suspension. i then cranked the torsion bars a little more than 1/2 way and then took the 2" block out of the back and put a 3" block in the back. the swamper's rub a little but not too bad, i have however had a problem with hub assembly's i had to replace both of them so i've had a brain storm and i'm gonna go soild axle w/ coil-over's. If anyone want's to e-mail me feel free to and if you live in florida near bradenton/sarasota area let me know.

Nice tread. I have the same set on my 82' CJ8 and would like to swap them out for an MT tire and put the TB on my Dak....once a decent suspension lift is out.

I do have a question or two:
How noisy are they?(my CJ8 is not the quietest vehicle)
Does teh front rub when you turn? Or was that only when you flex?

Nice rig.

Hey Dakota fine lookin' truck! I like the exhaust exiting through the pan, looks real sweet.

Checked out your site- Did a double-take when I saw 'Forked River'. Used to go wheelin' back there along the power lines all the time in my CJ7. You should see it back there in the winter with 2' of snow on the ground. Quite a ride down from Maine.

I am going to (someday) get the add-a-leafs that add 2", you think cranking the torsions 2" will be ok? i have 31x11.50s now, hope for 32"s, but 33"s would be sweet. the 31s rub and i trimmed a bit off the front fenderwells, and now there is hardly any rub. email me at vicar4437@cs.com. any info?

Good - They walk thru Mud, Water, and Snow
Bad - I can't get stuck...even in 2WD

Good - They look awesome
Bad - They are loud

Good - They look awesome
Bad - They cost a bit much

Good - ....
BAD - They are HORRIBLE of wet roads.
BAD - They wander on the road.
BAD - Hard, almost impossible to balance.

Good - Can show off by driving over almost anything, anywhere

With each weighed...I love them. I have them as my daily driver tire...for now. Besides getting 11-12 mpg I really do like them.

Mods: get an air intake and exhaust. Gears wouldnt hurt any either. (3.92 or 4.10)

Torsion Bar: Part of the front suspension. Crawn under your trucka nd you will notice two long black Rods/bars 3-4' long. Round in diameter about 1.5". They are attached to the front A-arm ine th front, and next to the trans cross-memeber in the rear (if I remeber correctly.) They keep the "pre-load" on the front end. Raising the tension on the torsion bar will raise the front up. Just dont over do the bars as they will wear out very quickly. A 1-1.5 inch raise is find to do thou. It will help level out the DAK too.

Check out my homepage for more info on the tires.
