I just put on 31s (up from the smaller factory's) onto my 2001 4x4. and while jacking it up i decided that i really wanted to raise the front end up. I've read that by turning the torsion bars like 2 turns or so that it will bring the front end up level. but by doing this what damage am i doing to the truck, will it seriously need to be realigned, and is it going to give me bad tire wear on the outside.

Actually.. I'd doubt if you needed to re-align your tires if you do. Your ball-joints might wear out faster and your Torsion bars will wear out faster.. Most mechanics wouldn't recomend it but I know alot of people have cranked them up abit. I wouldn't go all the way though.

well i cranked them up about 1.5" and never got the front end re-aligned and now have no tread on the inside of my front tires so i would say if you do crank them i would go get the alignment done

I had an alignment shop crank my torsion bars just enough to level out my truck. The ride is alot harder and the steering wheel pulls left to right when hitting pot holes. I'm also getting a popping sound when taking left of right turns when its bumpy and the trucks front end bounces. Do you think my shocks could be bottoming out due to the raising of the front end. The guy at the alignment shop used to work for Dodge and said it would not damage anything to level out the truck by cranking the bars. I might need to take it back to find out why it pops.

hey guys, i cranked up my torsion bars 5" and it's sweet. granted my radiator leaks now and my fan belt'wore out but everything else is great. i really like the stepped look so i made a 12" body lift and and lft the bed the stock height.

here's the great part though, i've always loved the way stadium trucks looked so i put a set of 35's on the front and left the 31's on the back. i am in trucking heaven!

I cranked up my torsion bars a little bit more scientifically than most of you guys...I checked the torque on the end bolts, they were 62 lbs and 65 lbs. Then I cranked up the torsion bars, same turns on each, one full turn at a time and checked the torque. The torque was then equal on both end bolts, the height change of the truck was equal. When I was done (about 3.5 turns, I recall)I had lifted the front end 1.5 inches, very very close to level with the back. The torque on both bolts was 95 lbs and their was a lot of thread left. Both wheels were still perfectly aligned and 6000 miles later there is no uneven tread wear. The ride is a little stiffer and there is no pulling or adverse effects.
