Does anyone know the best way to raise the front of my 01 Dakota 4x4 about 2"? If theres a kit out there where do I get it or are there any tricks that work? I want to maintain the ride and handleing and it can't be outragously expensive.
Thanks

Not aware of any 2" lift kits out there for the 4x4 front.
From stock height, you can raise it about 1.5 to 2" by adjusting the torsion bars, but that will put your suspension really close to the bump stops. 1" lift by torsion bar adjustment works well.

Thanks. I've heard of doing this but have heard that it puts to much stress on the torsion bars. Do you know if this is true or not?

Mine's been raised that way close to 2" since it was new ('00); no problems here. Also raised my two previous trucks like that; no problems with them either - and put over 100,000 on both of them that way. Haven't seen any extra front end wear on any of these.

Lead, follow, or get out of the way

There is no more stress on the torsion bars if you crank them up an inch or so than there would be at stock height. If you work out the mechanics of it all, the most stress on the torsion bars is when the lower control arm is parallel with the ground. Lower control arm because that's the one the torsion bar is attached to.

Here's a butt-load of reading on the subject:

Thanks guys for all the help but i have one more question for you. I saw that the 2000 Durangos have a stronger torsion bar and do you know if it will work in my 2001 Dakota. If you need more specs on my truck its a 5.9L Quad Cab 4X4 with an auto trans.

I have a 2001 ext cab dak. The easiest and best thing i could
find were "coil spring spacers." I bought 2 of them, slipped
them on very easily to my 2 front coil springs and got exactly 2"
of lift for the front which leveled out my truck. This let me put
in 32" bfg all terrains as well with no rub or adjustment of the
torsion bar. The best part is they were $3.50 each at autozone!!!

If you did coil spacers than you have a 2x4 because 4x4 have no coils, which means you have no torsion bars, but thanks anyway

Logan.
Just went and measured the stock bars I still have in the garage. They're 49 inches long. If your torsion bars are the same length, then those larger diameter Durango bars will work on your Dakota as well.
