I read up and down these forums and wanted to clear up some things. I have a 2000 CC 4x4 with the 4.7L I'm looking to raise it with a suspension lift then maybe a body lift down the road. Whats are my best bets for a lift and what websites can I look for them at? Also what gearing should I change to, and what's my best tire size? Can I fit 34's?

I have a 99 4x4 with the Rancuo 3in and it works very nice fits 33s without even getting close to rubbing. I could fit 34s and might be getting 34s when I need tires again. I will be putting 4.56 gears in mine in the next couple of weeks. The only thing different between my lift and the lift for the 2000-02 Daks is the steering yours has rack and pinion, mine still has linkage type.

No not really, Dakotas have pretty good brakes stock.

But I deffinately reccomend the gears, you won't loose quite as much power as I did because the 4.7 is a little stronger than the 318 stock, but still if you don't replace the gears the truck will feel like it has lost a bunch of power. Also a bunch of people that run 33s on this site that still have stock gears have complained about the overdrive not acting right mine still works fine (KNOCK ON WOOD) but I turn the OD off when I don't need it. Pretty much the only time mine is on is if I have the cruise set.

I still plan on getting the gears in my truck in the next week or so if I can find the time I will let you know how mine feels after I get them in if your interested.

Really ? The stock brakes on my '00 sucked, and many have complained about this. They went to larger brakes in later years. I found aftermarket brakes worked much better, others have upsized.

4.10 is a great ratio for the rev happy 4.7, some of us even saw a slight increase in milage switching to that. 4.56 is also good with bigger tires.

Ok I should have said my 3 Dakotas have all had good brakes only thing I had to complain about was the abs started acting funny on my 02 4.7 2wd so I just disabled it. The brakes themselves work great.

Your not going to be able to run 33's with the ranch 3" for your 2000. The biggest tire you can run is a 265x75x16 which is a little less then a 32". It's not the height that is the problem it's the width.

What's different about the 00s suspension from the 99s (aside from rack and pinion steering) that will let 33s fit perfectly on my truck but rub on his? And before you ask I don't have my fenders trimmed at all, yet. I am planning on doing a 3in body lift and 35s in the next couple of months when money permits. Will have to reshape the botoms of the fender openings a little to do that.

charlie b - I doubt it - I'm pretty sure the 15" rims on a '99 and the 15" rims on a '00 have the same backspacing, and are interchangable. Nothing about 16" rims on an '03 would explain differences between '99 and '00 - when they first changed to rack and pinion.

If i am not mistaken 265/75-16 was an optional size stock, wasn't it?

Maybe in later years ?
31x10.5x15 was the larger stock option for the last years that came with 15" rims.

Yes thats what I meant. Mine had 31x10.50s stock, but I think i remember seeing on dodge.com in the specs page a while back before the bodystyle change in 05 that the on/off road tire option for the Dakota was 265/75-16 Goodyear Wrangler RT/S.

You should be able to fit a 33x12.5 on your dak with a 3" susp. lift. I have the same truck with a 3" body lift, and I have no problems with the 33's. With the suspensoin lift you might want to check the rim requirements, last I knew you were going to need a 16" rim to clear the new lift. Definitely look int upgrading your brakes any time you go with a bigger tire. You could go even larger than a 33" tire if you alter your backspacing, and maybe only go with a 10.5" wide tire instead of a 12.5. I've seen daks with the 3" body+3"susp. lift run 35's.

Dito.
I don't see any reason that 33s won't fit on your truck with just the suspension lift and if you have to use 16in rims then get 285-75-16 tires they are a little narrower (narrower = less rubbing) than a 33x12.50 but still 33in tall or a 305-70-16 which is the metric equivilent of a 33x12.50.

I have no idea how to make 35s fit on a 2wd.
Its hard enough to fit 35s on a 4x4 without rubbing!
Sorry, wish I could help.

If I can make a suggestion, when you put the suspension lift on your truck it will be roughly the same hieght as my 99 4x4 with the 3in Rancho suspension lift. Mine fits 33s perfectly, 33x12.50/15 might be a better size for you to put on yours.
