I think most of the parts will work, but to be sure get a kit for a 2001. The blocks themselves should be the same, but some of the detail stuff might be different...I read somewhere that dodge changed the front bumper mounts at some point between 97-01 (not sure when), and if you've got a 4X4 the steering shaft might be different because of the steering change in 2000(recirculating ball 97-99, R&P 2000+)...as I understand it the steering shaft extensions in the kits are different depending on if it's a 97-99 kit or 2000+. Understand that this is just my guess and that I haven't looked up close at either a 98 or a 01 truck or the kits for either.

Get the kit for the 2001 NOT for the 98. Different steering extention, 4x4 shifter, bumper brackets, and I forget what else.

I think the 2001 and newer 4X4's have the dash mounted switch for 4X4, so a 4X4 shifter extension shouldn't be an issue. Correct me if I'm wrong but I think the 2000's are the only Daks that have the floor shifter in this particular configuration...from front to rear is 4 low, neutral, 2 high, then 4 high all the way back.
But regardless, get the kit for a 2001. I'm guessing you're asking because you can get a deal on a 98 kit?
