Message:
i have a 95 4x4 with a 318 and i just installed a 2 inch body and i still didnt get as much height as i would like so i was wondering if a shackle lift is a decent way to get another inch or around there .....i noticed nobody says anything on here about them so are they not any good or do they not work on dakota's?

Yeah I put 2in lift shackles on my 1990 Dak. I had a 2in suspension lift on the front and a rear add a leaf which caused my rear to sag. with the shackels, it totally did away with the sagging. They were not hard to install either. Got them from AIM. Like $55.00 or something like that. Obviously the rear went up alot but it really did nothing for the front. My logic was it would pull the rear of the front fenders off the tire abit and maybe i could get another size up on the tires. But no Luck. I does look more agressive though! Good Luck.

Like I said on my other post.. If you saw them installed on another truck.. and you know they are working.. COOL! Then and only then would I go for it. It looks like all these do is add a shackle in the front of the rear leaf springs (btw.. that bracket that the shackle is what Mike cut off).

2" really isn't all the Dramatic..

SuperBee.. If you do order them get them from AIM infact I'd go threw the same sales man that Joe went threw. Also Make SURE!! and measure them before you install them on your truck. You should be fine. Shackles aren't anything like what I had done.

MEASURE MEASURE MEASURE MEASURE MEASURE!

I think you get the idea.

These shackles go on the rear of the leaf spring. You can also get new hangers. If the installer guy cut yous off knobby, could you buy these hangers and be in business? I know that would require going back to AIM but it might be worth it in the long run if you could get your truck running again.
With these shackles, I just wanted to eliminate the rear sag I had, and it worked. So I am happy. I did have to bend the hanger out alittle to get the shackle in place. But I was only using common hand tools that I have in my garage. Nothing air compressed, or mechanical, just good ole muscle. But it can be done. I did it and I am no mechanic! Trust me.

Actually the back end is almost finished.. I have to grind off the Rear Leafspring rear hangers.. not the front. and then need to bolt on the new hangers.. and the rear is finished.

OK Knobby, I get you man. I never really paid that much attention to them because I have not dealt with em yet. But I know I saw some type of "holding device" there. I knew they were not just welded on or something. So what is the verdict on you Dak now?
Thoughts are with you man...

i read somewhere that a 2" shackle will give you 1" of lift because its only on the bacl of the spring and therfor only does half of how much it is, im probably confusing you now so anyway, ill have to find a dealer and see about getting some maybe, if not ill fabricate me some lift blocks (and dont point out the fact i have been saying that for the past 2 months)

HUH, Super Bee, you been talking about those lift blocks now for I think 2 months right. haha

I personally like the shackles. And the 2in of lift is figured into the desing. The shackle is actually like 4-5 in bigger than the stock. So you do get a full 2 in of lift. Good thought though!
Mike, got your email and the pict is in your now. Hope it works for ya.

Hoe, I too have added the 2" shackles to my 97 2 wheeler. I just put them in, but there seems to be no problems yet. If you decide to go with the AIM shackles($55) just make sure that they are straight when you get them. Other than that I had to pry the part of the shackle that the leaf bolts to open a little to get it to fit, but it just gets clamped together again when you put the bolt in-no worries. I guess all seems good so far, and it was a cheap 2".

tkdcoop, I had to do the same prying on the hanger. Thats why I have been saying there is alittle work involved. But there is no harm in doing that. Ive had my shackles for about a year now, alittle less, and have only compliment to say about them. Id recomend them to anyone who wants alittle ups in the rear.
