Subject: Torsion Bar Question.

Message:
I'm new to this suspension, so I don't know evertthing about it. I heard you can raise your front end a little by tightening the torsion bar. Well I did, and now I don't think the two sides are even. I'm measuring from the tire to the top of the wheel well, and Everytime I move the truck to a more even ground, I'm coming up with different measurements on each side. How can I get these the same on both sides.

Oh, and do I need to lift the front end up with a jack as I tighten the torsion bars?

Walt has a good write up on his page on how to crank the bars.

Thanks for the link. That really helped me grasp how to do it and how they work.

So can the torsion bars really get that messed up just by parking in a really uneven spot for a couple of hours?

If it didn’t happen to me I wouldn’t have believed it either. Yea, just a few hours and the left bar was tweaked enough to have the left side of the truck sitting almost an inch lower. But that was an extreme example; my suspension was at full flex. Any more and the right rear tire would have been off the ground.
