Subject: Raising the rear end
IP: Logged

Message:
I was wondering. I am considering raising the rear end of my truck i guess prolly 2 inches or so would be fine. What i want to do this for is cause i have a trailer. and when fully loaded it drops the bed down considerbly. Should I do a lift on the rear end. and put heavier leaf springs and shocks. or will just heavier shocks do the trick.Or even just lifting the rear enough? What would be my best cheapest and most effective option.
thanks

I have a 98 and when i put air shocks in the rear and pumped em up my truck went up about two inches, the shocks were about 90 bucks for the pair and was easy to intall,i would say thats the cheapest, fastest and easiest way to go.

If you raise the rear 2 more inches, your truck is gonna look funny with its ass so high in the air.
The object should be to add weight-carrying capacity with minimum increase in unladen rear end height.
The adjustability that comes with the air shocks, as Bucket suggested, is your best bet. The truck's rear height can be tailored to the load.

you know Shocks i was thinking that also
but someone else had told me to do the add a leaf thing
i dont know anything about it
but he said that the add a leaf will not really raise the truck that much at all
it will just support more weight
i dont know
and i do agree since truck rear ends are factory set higher then the front allready for loading capacity anyway
so i do agree that it will make it look kinda stupid to sit higher
and the air shocks probably would be my best bet since i can let the air out and they are easy enough to install
the add a leaf thing is a little more technical since you gotta remove the mounting bolts on the leaf assy
and add this leaf
i dunno i may not do anything at all
i am going to drive 4000 miles with a car hauler carrying a escort and the bed of the truck as well as the car will have some things packed in it
cause im moving
so i dunno i am just trying to make my move as smooth as possible thats all
my wanting to raise the rear end a little is just so i dont have to baby the truck over bumps
thats really about it

I just lifted my truck 2 inchs with a block lift and crankin up on the torsion bars. Stiffened the suspension a bit, but now it just feels like my buddy's Ram. She rides well and it seems fine. I dunno how this'll help with trailerin tho.

something to think about..using air shocks or an add-a-leaf will change your ride quality. If you use blocks you will maintain your stock ride.

I have a 5,000lb trialer and I took my blocks off and put an add-a-leaf on instead. It helped the sage when towing and the ride when empty is not that bad. The kit was for a toyota and I had to get new u-bolts.
