Subject: 2wd Fabtech Basic 2" system Problems??
IP: Logged

Message:
Hey Yall,

I have a 98 2wd and before I read up alot on it I ordered the fabtech 3" lift and then 2" spacers to use the ar 767 rims I currently have. After reading a number of the posts on here though about all the things that are going wrong with it I'm getting scared and am going to return it rather than put it on and pray nothing happens.

My question is though, I was going to exchange it for the basic 2" system + some shackles for the back to give it the stance I want, and wondered if there would any problems with that? From what I could tell the main problem with the 3" is the stress caused on the ball joints due to the backspacing or spacers used on the rims needed to use the kit correct? With the 2" kit since its just the springs and not the control arms I should be able to run the rims I have now without spacers and not have those problems right???

If any of yall could help I'd really appreciate it.

where did you read that ?????? I have the fabtech 3" lift since 01 and never had problems , 50k miles .I have weld rims sidewinders with 3 5/8 back and no problems , before that ihad ae 589's .The fabtech or whatever 2" coils is the same except with the upper arms you have better positioning for alignment . You can't use the fabtech 3 and 2" spacers on top , all you will do is compress the spring and make the suspension have no rebound travel at all ( ride like a tank ) .

the spacers on top of the 3 inch will cuase you problems. the 3 inch fabtech is the way to go if you have the money.

I guess i wasn't clear with what I meant, sorry. Thanks for ya'lls response though. I wasnt talkin about coil spring spacers I was talking about wheel spacers for my rims because the backspacing was too large.

I searched around on this board alot and have found people with the 3" fabtech lift who say its been great and worked well but then I've found others, probally more who have said they have had bad problems with it. I guess it just matters truck to truck and how much luck you have.

I decided I didn't want to take the chance because if something did go wrong, and with my luck it probally would, it would put me in a big hole to fix it since I'm still in college and money isn't growing on trees for me yet. I just figure the 2" would be safer since I can use rims with larger backspacing and will due for now. After I graduate and have more money to throw around maybe then I'll upgrade to the 3" or a 4x4.
