Subject: Backspacing with 3inch FabTech on 2wd

Message:
I have a 98 CC 5.2 2wd. I've got 16x8 wheels with 5 inch backspacing. Will I be able to use the Fabtech 3 inch suspension lift with these wheels? fabtech says I can't but I wanted someone else's opinion. THanks!

Why would you want a second opinion when the manufacturer of the product says 3.75" backspacing minimum? You should always go with the engineers, that way, when something breaks, it's their fault.

Because I have seen fabtech say that max bs is 4 5/8" I'm just curious as to what the problems would be if I were to run a wheel with 5" bs.

if you go look at your suspension , the upper balljoint rides inside the rim . when raising it it will ride near the top of the rim . the 5.5 back will hit when turning on the joint and more than that your brake lines run on the upper control arm , will rub and rupture your lines guaranteed .................. the pic on the site shows a blue truck with 15x7 that are ae 589 they have a 4" back and work fine . but that is max . If not you could run up to 4.5 back but will need custom brake lines , not oem .................Now you could do what you want , go for it ...................

rivermaniac, do you think using the 1.5" wheel spacer would solve this problem?

yes , but instead of buying spacers for whatever money and have something mickey , I'll sell you my american eagle 15x8 for 250 or buy a set , I wouldn't run spacers ...............
