Subject: Superlift (not for us though)
IP: Logged

Message:
I was just looking at the new 4wheelparts mag. that was sent to me and was reading about the new Superlift 6 in. kit for the ZR2 Blazer/S-10 when it occured to me.Why was this kit made for such an unpopular veh? Dont get me wrong its a great looking truck especially with the lift kit but there has got to be 1000 Dakotas to every 1 ZR2. With the responses we hear from the big name suspension companies about not enough interested people no demand etc...I just cant believe the dont make a Dakota lift yet! The ZR2 frame and susp. parts are very different from the normal S-10/Blazer chassis so this lift is specific to this very limited truck. Anyway just letting off a little steam I guess, maybe by the time Im ready to lift again one of these existing companies will have something available.

I know what you mean. I got the same issue and after I read it, I was thinking the same thing. Why do they make lifts for vehicles with such a limited production. I know that the rack and pinion is slowing down the production of lifts for the newer dakotas, but why don't they take the time to put in the research and development of a lift for a vehicle that has a higher production number. I know that Truckin Suspensions has made a lift, but I am waiting for it to be tested before I pay $1200 for a lift. I know that all of the lifts will be this expensive, but it would be nice to be able to choose from more than one or two companies. I guess I'm getting a little carried away, but from what I have read over the past few months on this site, there is a big market open for lift companies to develop a lift for the newer dakotas.

I'm a blazer ZR2 owner, and we felt just as
bad about not having lifts available for the ZR2
since they were the more off road oriented
between the ZR2 and non ZR2 vehicles. I also
believe that the ZR2 p-ups came out in 1994
(blaZeR2 followed in 96), before the Dakota or
Durango. We had all our ZR2 members crying
to the lift manufactureres to make us a lift
other than those lame upper control arm lifts.
The differences between chassis aren't all
that different. The only section that is different
between the 5" Trailmaster and 5" ZR2 BDS
kit is the rear crossmember. So ZR2 owners
really should have had a lift available when
Rancho had the 3" kit. Trailmaster really
dropped the ball when all they had to do was
add 3.9" between the rear cross member. I
feel your pain guys, but a blazer (ZR2 or not) is
more low end compared to the Durango, and
probably fits a less yuppie, soccer mom
profile. At least the 2 door. I also don't feel like
any vehicle should be labeled that way, but it
seems like whenever you read a magazine, it
mentions how suv's are for mothers. If you
think there is only a small following of ZR2's,
check ZR2.com. I'd say more people that own
ZR2's would be more eager to lift their trucks
than most Durango owners, as it is off road
specific, and finally has some lift options. Best
advice, call the lift guys every 2 weeks and see
what they say. Superlift gave ZR2 owners the
run around for more than 2 years before they
finally put out the 6" for us.

Yippie....3 whole inches for around $1200-1400 to do the same as a body lift for $200. Even if you used both you wouldn`t be able to run 35s on 10 in wheels without tearing the fenders off.
Sorry but Rancho won`t be seeing my $$s unless the come up with a minimum of 6 inches of lift.

ZR2 and unpopular DO NOT belong in the same sentence. There are 10 ZR2 fan sites for every 1 dakota site.

Sorry if that upsets you...

Mike,

That doesn`t upset me at all. I really don`t care how many fan sites there are , the point was how many of those things are on the road (or off the road) compared to how many Dakotas are on (or off) the road, and the fact that all the top lift companies have left us to fend for ourselves. I can tell you that I have seen maybe 2 ZR2s around my area , and I can`t count the # of 4X4 Dakotas I pass everyday , so that leads me to believe there are more Daks out there so the demand for a quality lift is apparent.
Now that Rancho has come out with a lift for us , I suspect others will follow with (hopefully) a little taller lifts...4-6in.
I also see in the new issue of 4Wheel and Off Road that Superlift now has a lift for the new 1500 Rams , so why not us !? We were led to believe it was because of the change to rack-and-pinion steering , but that`s not the case because the Rams have a rack now as well.

HEy Ragus doesn't your dak hae a solid front axle? If so all you ned to do for a lift is to put the leaf springs on top of the axle and you ave a lift. That is what i'm going to do when i lift a jeep this summer.

my 1997 dakota was fitted with the 5.5" lift from
Tuff Country. I know $1500 is pricey, but I wanted the height. I did four months of research prior to purchasing. I am incredibly happy with the outcome. Most parts bolted on back into OE specs. The ride is fantastic, with the BF goodies 33" mud terrains on the original Dakota rims.
Was browsing, as soon as I get my butt in gear, I'll join this sight, and post a pix of my "97

dirty , yes there are "companies" out there that make susp. lifts for Dakotas , but as of now Rancho is the only REPUTABLE one that makes anything for us Dak owners. The 3in. kit just isn`t enough for me , 4-6 or even 6-8 would be great , but I will not buy a Truckin Susp. or Whiplash kit , as I value my life (and the others on the road) too much to put that JUNK on it.

That is the orig. point I was making , if you were to read the entire post.

scott,
my short message on 5/26 was actually to place some possible encouragement into the people looking for a bigger lift. I have not seen any "chats" or "messages" of persons speaking of this company as of yet. That is exactly why I put out a message. Call Tuff Country and request a information on the 5.5 lift. Their product is extremely well built, laser cut, etc. etc. They even have two extra support bars that Rancho does not include (obviously and probably not needed since Rancho has only the 3 inch). As previously stated, installation was a breeze. Very strong and sturdy. NO! I am not affiliated with this company in any way, other than a customer.

I had the 5.5 T.C. lift on my previous 99 4X4 Dak. and had nothing but problems with the truck afterwards.
I`m glad you have had good luck with yours , so far.

It won`t fit the `02 that I have now anyway , so even if I wanted to try it again I`m out of luck.

Well first of all , when the packages showed up apparently I was missing a box of parts and didn`t realise it untill my installer was trying to put it on...partially my fault for not checking the # of boxes.
When I called and asked about it they gave the run around about me signing for it already and I`d have to pay for any pieces that were in that missing box. After some choice words and a few more phone calls they agreed to send me my missing parts free of charge , but it took 3 days to get them! The whole time my truck was already torn down , so I had no ride.
Again I feel partially at fault for not noticing right away , but I think the customer service left something to be desired.

Anyway on to the lift itself.

Half of the brackets didn`t fit correctly and had to be modified.
The front end had horrible creaking and popping noises after the lift.
I completely broke one of the main drop down brackets in half , just driving on the street.
I could never get it to hold an align. untill I welded the align. bolts to the upper a-arm.

I guess it was just a disaster from the get-go for me.
