Subject: clicking noise coming from the front

here it goes, I have a 2000 CC 4.7 4X4 3.55 gears, and I have a clicking noise coming from what sounds like the front axle shafts. could be coming from the CV boots, but I cannot tell. the other thing is that it doesnt matter if it is in 4wd, or 2wd. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Does it get louder when turning? Is it come from the driver or passenger’s side? Could be a bad CV joint or wheel bearing.

I’ve already covered on my web pages (ie. Where did you get the kit?, Who

encounter? etc, etc...)

doesn't change if I turn, and I cannot tell which side it is coming from. sounds like it is coming from both sides.

that is what I thought it could be, I was just wondering if it could be anything else because it seems to be coming from both sides. can I just replace the cv boots, or would I have to replace the axle shafts all together?

Changing just the boots is possible but either way you have to pull the axles. Then add about an hour labor changing the boots on the CVs and it's advisable you do all 4 boots while you have the axles out. The additional labor will mostly eat up what you save on parts by just doing the boots. Unless your doing the work yourself, it's almost cheaper to just change both axles with remanufactured units. And a hell of a lot easier. Many shops won’t change just the boots because it’s so much easier to just swap the whole CV. If that's the problem. Question, have you looked at your boots yet? Are they ripped? Clicking would indicate excessive wear and/or lack of lubrication. With yours clicking like they are, I would opt for changing the whole shaft.

I've looked at the boots, didnt see any tears. it sounds like it would be A LOT easier to just change the complete assembly. I would be doing all the work so labor isnt the issue, I was just wondering which would be easier/cheaper. Thanks for the help.
