i am fixin to buy a 3 inch body lift for my 01 dakota, i checked with two fourwheel drive shops and both quoted me a $1000 parts and labor. i think this is ridiculous when u can get it off the internet for about $180-200. How difficult is it to install myself and about how long could it take, i also wanna turn the torsion bars for an extra 2inches and tuck some 33's in there. what is a good wearin mud tire.

I would have to agree..You should be able to install it yourself. With a buddy and a day, if your good at that sort of thing at all it shouldnt be too hard. Plus, you always appreciate it more that way.

yea im in the army so time is hard to come by, but i called a buddy back home in virginia that works on trucks and he said $200. that sounds more reasonable. i might try it myself. Then i also thought about just crankin the torsion bars and putting 32's on it. Not sure bout the rubbin though

Did a 2 inch lift on my Toyota 4x4 pickup took me and 2 buddies 2 hrs. Piece of cake. Getting ready to do a 2" or 3" on my 98 dak 4x4 pickup next week. I would expect it to take about the same amount of time. By the way we did have good air wrenches which helped alot

1000$ is way crazy!!!! even the rip off shops here in town qouted me for 650-700$.anyway, me and a buddy did mine. i am no mechanic and we only had one air wrench so it took us 6 hours. my lift cost 190$ and that is all i had to pay, sweet look for little money.

not sure if your still readin this pist or not, but i bought my 3" lift from pa accessories, and took it to 4 different shops, installation cost ranged from $300 to $700 to $75hr with a 7 hour range, so i decided to tackle it myself on base in the auto hobby shop, took me 6.5 hours and had help from a few of the floaters in the shop...hardest part was the sterring extension, and i was missing a bolt to raise the spare tire winch, other than that, piece of cake

I also bought the PA 3" body lift.

Installed it by myself in one day in my driveway with my diverse selection of 1/2" drive sockets ;)

Only thing I had to do that wasn't bolt on was drill the new holes for the rear bumper lift and a welder at a friends house to modify the bend on the 4WD selector.

I had a PA 3" BL installed on my 2001 QC 4x4 at a Twisted Off Road here in Lake Charles, LA and they only charged $600.00. a bit under your $1000 quote, im running 33x12.5 BFG's with NO shaving and no rubbing unless i have the front end in a bind. Best of luck with your lift

Call Performance accessories they will give you a local dealer that should have one for 100$ or less. I got mine for 89$ and had it on in 3 hours by my self. A block of wood and a floor jack were the only friends i needed. Try not to use air tools when removing your bolts, if they break good luck bud.
