Subject: How much tire can I get?
IP: Logged

Message:
I have a 2001 CC 4x4 4.7l auto. My problem is that when I bought it, it came with Goodyear wrangler rt/s tires in a 265/70r16.Ifound out this weekend that these tires really suck. I got stuck friday and saturday nights and it took about 6 hours each night to get me out. And the bad part is that I wasn't mudding, I was trying to drive around the ruts both times because I don't want to abuse my truck. What I would like to do is upgrade the tires to something with some good grip and try to go up one size at the same time. I dont want to lift it I just want to get the biggest tire size that I can without rubbing. any help appreciated.

yeah this site is horrible for help. even though your answer is researchable. thats why you can search forums...........

33's will be tight and have minor rubbing if you plan on lifting the truck i'd jsut go get those now. 31s will fit with absolutely no problem.
'
and yes this site sucks go over to dakotausa.com much much much much better. good luck with your truck

The largest tires you can comfortably run on a 4x4 without a lift or new rims is 31x10.5 inch set. If you go for 32's you'll get a good amount of rub on the frame when you try and make very sharp corners and do U-turns.

If I were you I'd just go with a set of 29x11.5 M/Ts.

If you do a 3 Inch Body lift you should be able to squeeze on 32's with a very minimal amount of rubbing on the plastic inner fender.

Just to try and help you out with the stock 16x8 wheels you can get a 265/75/16 tire on the truck with no rubbing and no problems. This is about a 32x11 tire. I have bfg mud terrains.

I have a 2000 dakata with bfg 32's and they rubber slightly on the front when i turn. One might be able to crank down the torsion bars to keep from rubbing but I am out of adjustment. Best of luck!

The tire you get really depends on how you are going to use it. If you put lots of miles on your truck go with a 31-32 inch bfg mud terrain or goodyear mtr. They perform pretty well off road but also last. To get the best off road performance from your truck I suggest getting a set of swampers. They swamper ssr's are a radial tire with very aggressive lugs and lots of siping. They don not last as long as the others i mentioned but they are the best offroad and for looks. With a little fender trimming, stock wheels and a slight raise of the torsion bars you should be able to clear anything up to 33". Check out the exact measurements for the ssr's at intercotire.com. The sizes are larger than standard tires. (bfg 285/75/r16 = 32.5"
swamper ssr 285/75/r16 = 33.9") Hope this helps.
