Yeah, thats a totally different picture than what they had before. What is that spring for? I was going to order one but now I think I'll wait. I'm not gonna go to sawing crap off of my dak and then find out that it won't align right then what? Be up sh@t creek without a paddle! I really want my truck lifted but I'm not gonna buy something that I don't feel comfortable with. Good luck to all you brave souls that are gonna put your dak under the knife to try it out.

My lift is in the mail as of 2 days ago. So HOPEFULLY I will get it for a weekend install *Crosses fingers*. I'm almost positive that the picture on that site is just a generic lift picture. If you want all the pictures of the red dak let me know I have them in a e-mail here and I'll forward it to you.

You should be able to run 33x12.5x15 on 15x8" wheels w/ the 4.5" lift. I'm acutally going to test some MT/R tires that are that size so we'll see what happens.

Knoby, So give me a run down. I must have missed something.
Your ordering the truckinsuspension 6.5 in lift? And going to run Goodyear MTRs! Wow man, you musta hit the lotto or something.
You know you cold install a 2-3in body lift and run 35's. Dude, I envy you sooooooo much. I am guessing this 6.5 in lift is for 4wd only. Cuz 2wd have that dam rack and pinion steering. Thanks for the info.

Stock Rims

From I think 2000+ the 4x4's have Rack & Pinion also. http://www.truckin-virginia.com/ has a lift for 4x2's also.

Pictures will be posted as I'm installing the lift. Mostly because I'm sure I'll need some breaks ;-)

Also what do u mean you could install a 3" body lift & run 35's? w/ the 6.5" lift you should be able to run 35's on 15x8" wheels.

Lotto .... nope end of the year bonus YEP! :-) $1600 covered the lift for me and I had the rest in the bank :-) When I disapear all of a sudden and come back w/ a Hummer for my thumbnail you'll know I won the lotto. ;-)

305-75-16's are 305 millimeters wide at the tread. Divide that by 25.4 (numbers of millimeters in an inch) = 12 inches wide. The next number (75) is the height of the sidewall in percent of the tread width. 12 x .75 = 9. Multiply that by 2 (you have 2 sidewalls) and add the diameter of the wheel and you get the height or diameter of the tire. But you prolly knew all this!!!

Knobbyman, i must say your going to have one sweet truck when it's done.

One question for you knobby, since you seem to have all the answers - i was stupid enough to get the dakota with the 3.9L v6 and not the awesome 4.7L v8, will 33's kill my already lacking power? i have 3.55 gears and i'm planning on cranking the t-bars up an inch and adding a 3 inch body lift from whiplash and would like to get the 33X11.50 to fit without rubbing and only minor cutting, but most importantly have teh power to lug me around out on the dunes and in the mud and rocks.

Any reply would be awesome, i'm sure from reading all the posts for the last decade on this thing that your used to those types of questions, adn i'm sorry if it's repetative, but i'm new to dakatas', so cut me some slack.

PS... Knobby, i've driven and riden around in Hummer's before, they are great 4X4's, i even was present inside of one when we flipped it(got a great picture of me in the hummer hanging upside down and one of me standing on the drive shaft), i just thought i'd tell u since u said you would get one if u won the lotto. Not all that comfortable and incrediably loud, but they handle great and have enough torque to double as a tow truck and stock it took the Steps, one of the hardest 4wheeling points out there in Cali.

Thanks for everything!

You'll probably wanna go to a taller gear to push the 33's with your 3.9. Also, I dunno anything about Whiplash's body lift ... but all things being equal I'd go with Performance Accessories. Whiplash shorts people on susp lift parts from what I hear ... they probably short you on parts for the body lift too! ;o)

Arthur I'd LOVE to see those pictures of the Hummer. Also I'd switch your gears to at least 3.92 but I think while your switching them you might as well go to 4.10's But that depends on what your doing to your truck. Personally I'd go to 4.10's even w/ my 4.7 if I could. But the largest I can go is to 3.92 so I'll rid on my 3.55's for a while and see just how slugish my truck can be......

Did that jibrish sound half right?

Hey Knobby, you can get to sites here on the net that have speedo charts. You enter in your stock tires, gears, RPM and new tire size. It will give you the exact speed and what your speedo says. Thats is what I have done. Oh yeah, and got a radar detector just incase! haha.

The way I figure it... I drive with the traffic anyway and with the bigger tires I won't mind taking a little longer drives to intimidate people ;-) so I don't think I'll have any problems w/ the authorities.. But if I do I'll just make sure & go threw a mud hole that should keep me from getting a ticket.... Unless it's one of those redneck cops in there Chevy w/ 44's on *scary thought*.

Thanks for all the info Knobbyman.

I think I will go with the Performance Accessories body lift, it looks like everyone else has them and likes them. If I can manage without the gears I want to try just because I do a lot of freeway driving, and 4 wheeling is more of a weekend thing that I do with buddies out at the local dunes and the local rocky areas.

I will try and post some pictures of the Hummer upside down, and i'll get some pictures of the new one he bought after that one, it's awesome!

Thanks Again!

I was wondering if you guys thought that the 9.5in. Dakota lift by TruckinSuspension was better than the 10in. from Whiplash. I've been rollin' the same 5.5 inch Tuff Country lift on my Durango for the last two years and have tried everything to get more lift (torked torsion bars, Airbags). I'm on 35's but i wanna clear 36 swampers possibly 38's, and I definitely don't wanna make a 3in. body lift an option...fill me in on any pics or info you have to offer

-Thanx

With either of those lifts you should easily clear 36s with no problem,38s will also fit although you may need minor fender and front valance trimming depending on rim offset and how hard you wheel your durango. Check out my last Dakota (99 w/9in of lift and 38 swampers) on the readers rides section (page 13 top right) of this site , let me know what you think. My main concern with those lifts would be the quality of them.I wouldnt want to be the gueina pig for them to test them on.

What do you mean why are they so cheap? Check the other lifts available the prices are about the same. Basically Chris (Dakota USA) and I told them the price was way to high and they needed to check the other lifts for prices and become comparable... So now we have these prices. Don't forget you still have to pay for install.... or do it your self.

The price of a 9.5 lift from TruckinSuspensions is about a grand cheaper than Whiplashes 10in. I don't know if the 4.5 and 6.5 are more expensive than Tough Country's, cuz that's the only other lift I know of for a Dak or Dur besides Rancho's lil 3in.

When you place a add in a magazine.. it takes about 3 months for that change or start to take effect. so..... that's why you see that they still have free install in the advertising..

By the way.. I don't know b/c I don't get Truckin' and I haven't seen one for months.. *makes trip to starbucks for lunch* but.. Do they have any prices on there for there lifts?

Nawww ... it's a pretty generic ad. No model specific pricing.

Ya know I'm still intrigued by the whole idea of a susp lift, but I dread to think what would happen to my exposed torsion bars when I crested a sand dune and the weight of the truck came smacking down on them. If that's the only option for lifting our r&p front ends ... I think my torsion bars will stay safely tucked inside the frame.
