I just bought my first brand new Dakota. I want to lift it just a little to give it a better stance, but I don't have much to spend. What is the easiest way to get about a 1" or 2" lift?

Charlie B,
If I absolutely HAVE to explain....

Maybe I DON'T WANT to turn my truck into a frggin bigfoot.
Maybe I still have to haul a trailer, travel to and from work, haul fiewood, bring my kids to the doctors, get groceries, etc, etc, etc, and STILL get decent gas mileage. And there is no way I'm going to take this $25,000 truck into any situation where I would NEED it to be any higher than that!

For everyone EXCEPT Charlie B...

My truck does have ABS and I just learned that it is illegal to alter the suspension on it. Could I still do a slight torsion lift in the front and add a leaf in the back?

I have an '04 as well. I tweaked the torsion bars abvout 1.75" and installed 1.5" blocks. I am also running 285/75 mud tires on the stock rims. I had to trim the edge of the front bumper slightly to clear the tires, but with stock size tires you would not need to. I also installed some rancho RS5000 shocks to help with the bounciness of the stiffer front suspension. I guess I spent about $200 on the blocks and shocks.

PS, dont skimp on cheap U-bolts. One of my cheap autozone u-bolts broke and I bent my driveshaft. Ended up getting some Fabtech ones that are much better.

Thanks all
Unfortunately here in Maine blocks are illegal and the truck would never pass inspection. Plus, this truck has ABS and ANY modifications to the suspension are illegal. The State Police are really cracking down on lifted vehicles for some reason. Technically I can't even put bigger tires on and still pass inspection, but I can probably get away with some slightly wider ones.

What I've decided to do is completely legal and will get me about a 1" to 1.15" lift without any major mods. I spoke to a service tech at the dealership where I bought the truck. If I install helper springs in the back it will lift the rear end then I can level the truck using the torsion adjustment. Then all I need is an alignment and I'm good to go. With this plan I can have a small lift that is still legal all for under $100.
