Subject: 3" Body Lift w/ K&N FIPK
IP: Logged

Message:
Has anyone attempted to keep their K&N FIPK and install a 3" body lift? I contacted K&N recently inquiring about this, but a fact they apparently left out when soliciting their product is that the FIPK is not recommended for trucks with body lifts. But never the less I see it now before I start installing the lift. I would like to be able to 'adapt' the FIPK (so that I am not out $250) and was wondering if anyone has already accomplished this task? I have some ideas, but why reinvent the wheel if I don't have to. Thanks

John,

I have pictures saved on my computer at work. I'll email them to you tomorrow. I took them for the technicians at Perf. Acc's, but they were no help. I have two ideas myself, but I will out line them in my email. I have now 5 days to figure this out, my kit and tires have arrived.

Thanks,
Robert

You can modify the K&N system to work with a 3" Body Lift. What you have to do is trim the bottom of the heat-shield according to where it hits on the inner fender. The reason for this is of course that the engine is now 3" inches lower. It's really just a process of elimanation. If you don't feel like trimming heat-shield or you don't have time just remove the heat-shield, the only draw back to that is the filter will get dirty quicker and the FIPK won't work as effectivly. If you have any questions or need any tip's e-mail me or post a reply. Hope this helps.

Steve

Ditto what Steve said. The 4x4 shop trimmed the bottom of my lower head shield and made the 3 inch whole more oval shaped. Seems to work. I'll take picture if someone wants some...just let me know.
