yeah, Walt puts everobody to shame on this site. I have only seen 1 dak running larger meats than him and it was on a gen II not a gen I. By the way that truck went on to win at the Mopar Nationals. My hat goes off to you Walt. Your truck is the light at the end of the tunnel for my gen I Dak. 2in susp. and 3in body lift. Only 31's due to 2wd. Am looking for something more though. Wish me luck.

Blizzard and Hawkeye, You trucks are great dont get me wrong but Walts is the only Gen I Dakota with 33's. Its practically impossible to do. There are simply no kits out there for us Old Dak people. But keep up the good work with your Gen III daks. Have you heard that Whiplash Susp. Systems is now making the 10, may I repeat 10 in. lift for Gen III Daks. I would go into serious debt if I had a Gen III dakota, 10 in lift running 38's man!!!! Makes my heart spudder.

Yeah Joe, I was just being a pest. It's all in fun. I agree, Walts truck is hands down awesome and I would have no problem with it being parked in my front yard. Too bad someone doesnt make better kits for the Gen I trucks, they do look great lifted.

Hey Hawkeye, I would give anything to be running 33's right now. But unfortunately, my dak is a 2wd. So the 5 inches of lift I have installed only allow for 31's. (Thanks to the knowledge of Walt, he explained the 2wd thing to me.) But I am still looking for any opportunity to beef my dak up more. Thanks for the responce. Talk to you later.

That really stinks. Bad design on Dodge's part. I think that with that much lift, even on a 2wd, you should be able to fit 32's or 33's. Keep workin on it. You'll get there. Get some pics up if you can. Love to see yours.

I beg to differ Joe. The TrailMaster 4" lift for Gen II Dakota's CAN BE adapted to the Gen I Dakota's. Same goes for the DayStar poly bushings for the Gen II Dak's. There is a guy here in town that has done some work on my truck, and he swore in 100% confidence that that lift can be done on the 1988-1990 Dak's. He has been doing this business for almost 20 years. Dont lose hope pal.

I dont have $1,395 to buy the lift, and another $500 for him to install it. But, hey, that day may come soon....

In the meantime, I'll settle for the torsion bar lift and 31's....

Tigerdak, yeah, about the Trailmaster 4in, thats what Walt used. But his truck is a 4wd. And that lift is for a 4wd I believe. Would it still work no my 1990 2wd? I am not sure of the differences in components but it seems that the 2wd would have less to mess with not having the front drive shaft and diff. case, etc. Well, Tell me what you can please, hey Walt that includes you too man. I need all the help I can get.
I talked to my 4x4 shop and they said the pinion and other linkages up front could not handle any more than the 2 in I have. Is this true, Or could I get new ones. I found a 3in susp. lift through AIM ind. with 3in coils and upper A arms. I thought maybe I could use that and a 1in spacer and get my 4 in of lift but my mechanic said there was not enough room up front for that to happen. Any comments will help. Thank You all
Joe E.

Well I didnt know it was a 2wd! Dang it! Anyways, that TrailMaster lift is for IFS trucks, and if Walt's is a straight-axle, I do not know how he did it or what...??? Because if a truck is straight-axle, you can pretty much do anything and dont need a special lift kit like that TrailMaster one. But once again I cannot say for certainty.

All I know is that lift is available and doable for my truck. If yours is 2wd, I might ask him tomorrow for ya!

No straight axle yet though I do have a Dana 44 front axle from a 79 Bronco sitting aside. It was in the works but I ran into a few logistical problems. The biggest problem is time and space. Ingrid and I are still in the apartment and we don’t have the room to dig into a project that big right now. When I did the IFS suspension lift, I used the TrailMaster 4” IFS Suspension kit to start with and I thought it would be a quick 2-3 week project. It ended up taking much longer and costing way more than I originally thought. In hindsight, it wouldn’t have been much more time or money to have swapped in the Dana. The TrailMaster kit is NOT a straight bolt in installation. Because the kit was designed for ’91-’96 Dakotas, it required replacing some of the stock parts with non-standard parts. I fully documented the installation on my web page.
Ingrid and I are planning on buying a house soon, and once we have a place of our own, I plan to redo the whole truck. Ingrid works as a metal and fabrication buyer and has a lot of contacts in the welding and fabrication field in our area. We spoke with one of the vendors she does business with and he is willing to help out with welding, fabrication, abrasive blasting, etc…

Greg, who did you get 12.50 wide tires on 15x7 in rims? I know that you can run 11.50's on them but 12.50's? Wow. I have 15x7in Amer. Racing Nitros and actually want to get new rims so I can run 12.50 in tires. How do they run? What type of power loss did you have running the 33's? Dude, you must get picts up OK.

Yes , but....

You`ll need to do alot of trimming of the lower front valance and the rear of the front wheel well openings in order to drive it with little to no rubbing. Forget about off-roading with that set up.

Check out pics. of my "old" Dakota , a 99 CC with the same lift and tires you want , it`s on page 13 in the viewers ride here.
