Subject: Lift for my DURANGO
IP: Logged

Message:
Does anyone know where I might be able to find a good suspension lift for my 2001 Durango 2x4 to where I can put 38's on it? I heard whiplash is not making these kits anymore, so now what? I'm ready to spend big dollars to customize my Durango, but the lift has to be reliable...any help? thanx! Todd

Whiplash never made anything for 2WDs anyway.
Besides they were junk kits that were just for show , and that`s why they no longer make them.

You would have to a complete re-design of your current suspension by a qualified off-road shop to even THINK of putting 38`s on a 2WD Durango/Dakota.

What if I go with a 3" fabtech suspension lift and a 3" body lift. Can I fit 33" tires? possibly 35"?

maybe

33s yes with some trimming , 35s would be a real beitch without major trimming , and then that would be for street use only.

I talked to whiplash and they r re designing the 10'inch lift kit for the dodge durango. it is supposed to come out in about 60 days. Im not sure if it is for 4x2 you would have to call 1-866-wip-lash and ask them. GO to there website and look at the vehicles there to see what there lifts look like on durangos. Also if u call them u can order a catalog. Cause i myself am looking for a lift kit. If you find a decent lift for cheap email me a racerx162@yahoo.com.

If you are 2wd and going for 38s, I would suggest you go ahead and get a t-case and a solid axle up front.

Am I crazy for trying to put 38's on my 2wd durango? Has this been done before?

Not crazy, but it is going to be extrememly expensive and difficult. Save yourself the expense and get a big truck that will fit 38s with a smaller lift or go ahead go get a transfter-case and at least a D44 up front and have some fun. Even witht he Whiplash kid on a 4wd our front end will really break if ever wheeled with 38s, it is just not strong enough to turn 38s.

Oh well, maybe I'll forget the 38 idea...it would probably be much easier to go with the slammed look...do durangos look pretty cool with that slammed look? and can I get the slammed look or something cool with only 18" wheels? I really didn't want to do 22" or 24"...

I am pretty sure you wont get a favorable response about lowering in the Raised forum :). I would ask the same question over in the lowered section, I am sure you can get a lot more responses from people that have done the same thing you want to do.

the tuff kit only works if your truck has a steering box not rack and pinion. by the way, if you go any bigger than 35s on any dakota or durango (especially heavy swampers)then your brakes wont like you very much. they also wont like to stop. i work at jackit and we have had to upgrades to the specific durango to make the customer happy. warping his rotors constantly made him unhappy.
