Subject: Lift shackles and exhaust interference?
IP: Logged

Message:
I installed a 3" FabTech lift on my 97 Dak and loved it, except the way the rear looked. It was too low for my taste, even with a 1.5" add-a-leaf. I proceeded to find a lift shackle for it to raise the rear more. My goal was to make the rear look about the same distance above the front as stock. The shackle had two holes/settings. The shortest one was all I could use because of the exhaust pipe, though, and it added about an inch at the fender.

I came to realize that the exhaust pipe will have to be bent to allow me to use the second hole, and gain another 1/2-1 inch of height at the fender. No problem. That will be done in a couple of weeks.

Here is my question: Does the Gibson cat-back exhaust pipe [the Swept Side version that they claim is the only one 'heavy duty enough for off road use'] also interfere with the rear shackle/spring area and can it be as easily re-bent as the stock, without losing any of the power/torque advantages?

Thanks!

Jason,
I looked into this also when I was considering my hangers. About a foot forward from the tail pipe there is a hanging rod that is welded to the exhaust pipe used to connect it to the frame. If you can call and exhaust shop (maybe even an auto parts store) and get a longer one of those guys you should be able to take that in and have them weld on the new one. I don't think the pipe being one inch lower will effect anything.

The Gibson exhaust has a joint next to the leafs. You can angle the tailpipe however you want.
