Subject: need help removing lower ball joints!
IP: Logged

Message:
I am doing a lift on my 97 Dakota 2wd and decided to replace ALL the ball joints at the same time. The problem is that the lower ones are riveted on the lower a-arms. I was planning on just grinding the heads [rounded top part?] off and using a big hammer to pop the rivets out the bottom. I already have the new ball joints, which are held in place by 4 nut/bolts through those holes. Is this a safe plan, or is there something I should know? Thanks!

I did this when I did my suspension lift. All I did was drill out the rivets with a Titanium high speed or Carbon drill bit. Those rivets are pretty hard and your average drill bit won't cut it. Just make sure that the drill bit is centered. You don't want the hole to be off center.

Wouldn't want any other!
