Subject: What is this washer for? Fabtech A-Arm?
IP: Logged

Message:
I am busy installing [trying to] my Fabtech 3" lift kit on my 97 Dakota 2wd. I have the back finished but am having problems with the front. I have read the directions 3 times and still wind up with the same problem/question: what are these 'other' four washers [5/8 interior hole] for?

I was about to install the 'rod' into the passenger a-arm and proceeded to line up all of the parts. The directions say to take the 'rod' [I forget the term: bar that the two bolts go through and it is what is connecting upper a-arm to frame]and put a sleeve, bushing, washer and nut on one end [all while in a vise], torquing the nut down. However, on the original install there was a washer on the inside, then the sleeve/bushing, then a larger washer on the outside, then a nut. Am I right in that there isn't supposed to be a washer between the sleeve and the center of the bar? Or should there be two washers sandwiching the sleeve/bushing between them, per side?

What adds to my confusion is that I found 4 washers that I am not sure about the purpose of. Their interior hole diamerter is the same as it would be if it went on the inner side of the sleeve, and the outside diameter is small enough that they would slide right through the sleeve while attached.

However, I can't find the washer mentioned to use on the upper ball joint. This washer would work for that also. If I only had 2 of them I would assume that they went on the ball joint. However, putting 2 washers on each ball joint, before installing the castlenut, seems abnormal.

I will call fab-tech on tuesday for a response, but I was hoping to have the arms and lift finished while I have monday off. If any of you can help me figure out what these 4 small washers are for. If they are for the inside of the sleeve on the a-arm rod, I need to know before I install all of those parts. If 2 go on each ball joint, I need to know that also.

Thanks VERY much for any/all aid you can give me.
jason
