This is what I used for my '00. I have some photo's and info at my site as to how to install.

You can run 2 different tires and cal each to read true speedo and odo.

I don't know what type you got but I do know the Abbott gear box type does work with Anti-lock brakes. Just need to hook it up between the ABS and the PCM, not the rear end like it says to hook up. If you need more info let me know.

Hey forexfour,
After a quick search I found the kit for ~$185. Seems a little steep. I read the "benefits" page, and maybe I'm cynical but asside from the convenience of actual speed / mileage, do you really think there is a benefit in performance and shift points?

I've got about 5 mods I'm considering and they all seem to be $150-400 and I'm trying to prioritize.

Thanks.

My thoughts are it is worth it. But I also think different than most so I maybe the wrong person to ask.

If it is the $185. that makes you cynical then it is not worth it for you. Not trying to be a jerk.

Performance not really, except for high rpm's while the tranny is trying to figure out where it is, shift points yes.

Maybe 2thextrem can add more if he is around. He just hooked his up and mine has been on for a while so my memory of the initial changes are faded, I only put it on to fix the speedo and odo not realizing the other benifits.

No worries here (Jerk)... j/k

It's not the 185 that makes me cynical per se, my gut reaction was that the performance & shift points were added as benefits to justify a higher price to a relatively basic component. Truth is, I don't really know enough about it to come to that conclusion. I would think the computer would make shift decisions based on rpm not speed but, again I'm talking over my head. I guess the computers are sophisticated enough at this point that there are numerous variables taken into consideration. At some point in time I'll do it, but as long as I'm not damaging anything, I'll probably do the hitch, nerf bars, air intake, etc... first.

Besides, with the change in "mileage", it's like extending the warranty!

BTW, I'm in So Cal and have to try meeting up with you guys on one of your trips. Even if it's just to check out your rigs on my way to a camping trip...

If you are in So Cal, You should follow ORW boards for trips and group meets.

The group is great, I cant believe the great people I have hooked up with over there and it is pretty easy to get into a run since we have them both in NO and SO, usually monthly.

Go to the CA group.

As far as the calibrator goes, I agree little pricey but seems to help out. Maybe if you saw how it was wired in it may help you understand how the comp gets its info. Most signals to the computer are just slight changes in power and or resistance.

i tried calling superlift before i made the post and they said they didn't have anything available for the 02 model, that something had changed. i haven't the slightest idea what that was though. stealwings582 i'm interested in knowing where you got your kit and for how much, my e-mail is robbyadams@hotmail.com. Also, how you installed it since it was different than the directions. Thanks

skipdawg91, the instructions were really for a 97 and older and mines a 98 which end up being different. I had to help Abbott techs figure it out but it does work. I dropped a an e-mail. Traumer, if I was you I'd go with Abbott. It was a little cheaper around $140.

If it's performance that you're after, doesn't the Hypertech programmer also allow you to setup your vehicle to work with new gear ratio's and tire size?

Don't have a recalibrator on mine...my speedo is only off by about 3 mph at 70, so I'm not worried.

After going to larger tires and then a few months later doing a gear swap from 3.55 to 3.92, my truck still shifts the same as when it came from the factory. Don't know all the electronic differences between the 3.9/5.2/5.9 and the 4.7, but my 4.7-auto combo has always upshifted right at 5500 at full throttle, regardless of gear and tire combo. Part throttle up and downshifts are the same as well. Obviously my truck is moving at a different road speed when those shifts occur, but they happen at the same rpm's as when the truck was stock.

So at least for the 4.7-auto crowd, I doubt the calibrator would do anything performance-wise. But who knows...I've been wrong before!

Hey Dan, kind of a off the wall question but are your corners stock? For some reason they don't in that picture of your truck in your profile. Also what wheels are those that you have?

Sorry skipdawg91. I thought you had an Automatic. I can bet you Dan Gruber that your truck wasn't all that far off from stock which in turn problably doesn't effect that much. Mine went from 28 inch tires and a 3.55 gear ratio stock to 33 inch tires and a 4.10 rear end. It made a big difference for me.
