Ok since a couple of us have answered most of the 2000+ lift questions I thought I would summarize them once again for all. If anything is wrong please feel free to correct me.

The only ift available for 2000+ 4x4 Dakotas is a 3 inch body lift from Performance Accesories. It costs about $200. It permits the use of 33 inch tires. Stock rims will work, if you have 16 inch rims 305x16's will fit. This takes about 8-10 hours to install. It necesitates little mechanic experience, just time and tools. Jack stands and air tools make it much easier.

3.55 gearing will do fine with 33's if you have a manual, if you have an auto you might notice it shifting out of overdrive more. 3.92's are perfect for 33's. If you want to upgrade 3.92 or 4.11's would be fine. If you tow 3.92 or 4.11's are preferable whether or not you have 33's or not, and whether ot not you have a manual or automatic tranmission.

Hypertech does not make a programmer for our trucks.
Jet chips suck on the 4.7L.
Throttle bodies are good.
Air intakes and exhausts are good. Single exhaust is more efficient if unable to make a true dual exhuast.

Limited-Slip differentials are good too.

Nice summary.

Only thing I would add for 2000+ Daks is the 10" suspension lift from Whiplash Suspensions. There has been much debate over it, but the lift IS available -- for around $2,000 (I'd quote a price, but their website is down). As far as I've heard, nobody on the dakota boards has had any experience installing or using the 10" lift.

I have asked at off road unlimitted here in calif and they said that wiplash is no good ....... I passed by their headquarters in fresno , they had a lifted chevy 10 " no front wheel drive for 4x4 , didn't have the brackets or adapters for it . From what I saw it's just a bottom bracket and thats it , the rest is stock , didn't like how it looked , then again I don't have a 4x4 .....

Whiplash was busted for fradulent auto insurance claims. Not sure if I'd want to do business with them.

As for the exhausts, I've heard some good but many bad things about aftermarket exhausts for the 4.7. Something about a gain of 1 ft-lb of torque and a loss of 1hp with a 3" aftermarket cat-back. Similar was found with several exhausts after being dynoed.

If anyone knows of an exhaust that has 'proven' performance on the 4.7, I'd like to know the name so I can buy one.

I have 285/75-16's(33x11.50) on stock wheels and I have plenty of room, IMO the extra inch width should not be a problem.

BAH... I promise eventually I will be up there...... eventually in the mean time I'll just have a seat and dream of being nice & tall like the rest of you. OH!! one thing I wanted to ask. What is the largest tire that will fit in the spare tires area? The 33's fit fine right? Do you think that a 35 would fit?

Just curious.

Knobbyman, my 33" spare just fits and touches against one of the crossmembers so I don't think the 35 would go without some modifications. If you are running tires that big you might as well go with an in bed tire carrier with lock, it would look better instead of 33X12.50 hanging down to the ground:)

I'm still stock. Just trying to figure out how big everything is.. I'm building a roof rack and I'm trying to determine if I even want to think about putting a wheel up there *could you imagine trying to get a 35x12.5x16 onto the TOP of your truck? I think if anything happens I'll go w/ the carier in the bed of the truck but we'll just have to wait and see what happens.

Better bring some friends along in case you need to change a tire with that on the roof:) Definately look better in the bed anyway.

Thanks for all the info on the lifts. I am going to go with the 3" body lift and get the 305/70R16(33x12.5-16) tires. I want to go with BFGoodrich All-Terain or Mud-Terain. Not sure yet. Any good places to get the body lift from. I know i am going to have to order it but who is the best for this. I also want to get the 70mm Throttle body and z tube from Speedtweaks. Thaks for any info

A 3" body lift sounds like a lot ... how does it look when installed? Doesn't anyone make a 1" or 2" body lift for a Dak? (I've got a 1" Daystar body lift on my 2000 Jeep Wrangler TJ, and I know I wouldn't want to go higher, at least looks-wise). I've got a new set of 32 x 11.50 BFG All-Terrain KO's on my 1999 Dak Sport 4x4, and although I don't have any wheel well rubbing, I might like to get just a bit more room back in the wheel well area (so I don't rub when things get to flexing).

Don

Hey guys, love the site, my question: I got a 2002 Dakota 4X4 with the 3.9L and 3.55 gears. The engine is really underpowered, it's alright for some 4X4ing, but I'd recommend the 4.7L, anyways, I'm looking to get a lift but i don't want to spend the money on a suspension lift when body lifts are so cheap, is there any real drawback to a 2" body and 33's over a 3" suspension and 33's? And will the 3.9L be able to take the new tires, or will it really crap out on power?
Thanks - Arthur

You guys on the site our great and after looking through the post I have solved the questions I have had about my Dakota. Thanks.

I just ordered a 3 inch performance accessories body lift from summit. It was $165.40 including the 2nd day air. I should have it on by Saturday night. My question is can I put a picture on the sight without becoming a member?
