Alright boys and girls, I just got off the phone with Tim at Glassworks Unlimited. I was supposed to get him a set of metal fenders today to use as molds, but it seems SOMBODY beat me to it on Friday!! Lucky dawg.....

He says they will be starting on them shortly, that they could be ready for the market sometime in April!! Correct me if I am wrong, but these will fit the years 88 thru 96. He says to expect about $400 a set.

These ought to come just about the time I am needing bigger..I..I..mean new, tires.

Waahoo!!

Yes. You WILL be able to fit bigger tires.

I know the next one coming, How big a tire?

Well, it depends, on a number of things:
1. If you are using Original Equipment Manufacturer(OEM) wheels;
2. If your rig has been lifted by the body, the suspension, or both;
3. If you have aftermarket wheels with an off-set(backspacing) that is less than the original 5.5" that stock wheels come with;
4. How wide the tire is. example: I can fit a 33x10.5 easier than a 33x12.5. Both are the same height, one is just wider.

By the way, the 33x10.5 BFG A/T is what i will be putting on mine. All the height, without the added weight.

"Tastes great. Less filling!" You get the picture?

Hey, one ? about the fenders. On my truck, the cab body mount is just behind the front tires. I have cut about 1.5-2 in already off but The mount is in my way now. How do these fenders increase tire usage? And how much do they flair?
Thanks again.

Tim said they are looking at about 4"s wider than stock with 1"-2" trimmed off the rear of the opening. I explained to him that our opening is already rather high on the fender and that it didn't really need to go up much. I also explained, as Walt had mentioned on another post, that should they remove much more than an inch or 2 of the rear lip he would simply be exposing the rear portion of the fender well. They are talented artisans there at Glassworks, and I am confident like everything else they have produced, that all will be in correct proportion.

Joe, are you using original wheels or aftermarkets? If the latter, are they close to or the same backspacing as the originals? It sounds to me as though you are close to stock back spacing with bigger tires if the body mount is where you are coming into contact first.

Now don't run out and automatically get different wheels. The more you off-set the quicker you tend to wear out stearing/ suspension components.
That body mount may be your limiting factor on the 2wd. The fenders will still give your rig a much more aggressive racey off-road look. Take a peak in an "Off-Road" magazine. They always have at least one race truck in there. Those trucks don't sit so high, it is that wide "humped" front fender that gives it the "look". And that is what you are ideally after right? "The Look"?

My suggestion Joe, would be to do a little research (ask the guy at the parts counter at Dodge) how many years was the same spindle used on the 2wd. Hey can simply look up the P/N for your 88? And see how many other years it was the same. If it is like the fender it goes up to 96.

Armed with that info, start hitting up the companies that make dropped spindles. Sometimes they don't realize the market they are missing by not producing a particular item,case in point; the fenders. We are getting fenders now, right? I rest my case....And the folks at Hannemans probably wished they would have paid more attention to my requests then Glassworks did. Thanks, Tim.

other bill, what truck do you have???
Just curious. I sould love to run a 33x12.50 but that is not gonna happen until a 3in spindle comes out. But right now, a 31x12.50 is my next goal.
ABout the body mount just behind the front tires, I am about to take it to a shop that I know, real good people, and see if they can relocate that mount a few inches back. Then basically cut into the cab or push that metal back for a couple more inchesof clearence on the front. What do you think?
About the finders, they sound great and a group buy might work. But I really need some picts first. Thanks.

RaGus,
I have a 95 ext cab 4x4, 2" body lift and 4" suspension lift. 15x8 589s with 3.25" backspacing. I am wearing out a set of 31x10.5s (they were on before I installed the suspension lift) and I will be moving up to the 33s this spring/ summer.

94 Dakota,
We get the front going 1st, THEN we ask for the rear.

tj,
How could you doubt me!? I have been active in this quest since early last year! But thanks for contacting them.

To All Concerned,
The more inquiries they get, the more they will see there is a bonafide market they need to feed.

Folks, they are starting!!
Tim from Glassworks Unlimited gave me a call yesterday looking for some specifics. I had sent him some photos of my front fender area so they could see where and how much to modify the fenders. Sounds like they will be removing the factory flared portion of the metal, approximately 1 1/2" to 2"s of the rear opening, and about 1" of the front opening. He said they will be flaring it 4" to 4 1/2"s. This thing is going to look b!+chen. He sounds like a good guy to work with.
