Has any one used "Lift Lips"?
I guess that almost everyone has eh?!

Since I am such a tight A$$, I am looking to save a few bucks. Is there a 'backyard'/el cheepo alternitave to them? Can I just use some old mud flaps off a big rig?
where/how do they connect?

Where do they connect?? Look inside your wheelwells after the body lift is installed ... do you see the gap between the fender liner and the frame rail? That gap is where they connect! ;o)

Sure, you could probably buy a dozen mud flaps, hack the hell out of them, piece them in ... might look okay ... might not. Lift lips, gap guards, or whatever you want to call them are not that expensive in the first place. My advice --- just do it right the first time!

I saw a thing in Four Wheeler magazine. A guy with a 3in body lift used his brain and came up with this.
He took 3.5 in rubber garden trim. You know, that flat black plactic you put boardering your garden to keep the weeds out. He basically cut the everything off both top and bottom and left only the flat black plastic. He then used clear silicone adhesive, that comes in a caulk bottle, and glued the rubber to the bed of the truck leaving just enough hanging down to cover the gap. It seems like a good idea, I might try it this weekend!
Hope this is a viable option.

Thanks for noticing Joe E. That was me. I did it over a year ago and they are in place just as snug as they ever were. That stuff is around $10-$15 a roll, the indoor/outdoor caulking was $3 I think. Get the silicone. And JJ, please tell me you DID relocate your bumpers also. That is quite the "cheezy" look with the gap at the front and back of the rig. Believe me I know it is time consuming, but well worth the effort. One last thing before I go, the spare tire lowering tube that runs through the frame is going to give you fits if you don't open up the hole in the frame that it passes through. Good luck.

Blizzard, thanks for the tip. Although I was hoping for a more specific answer. I wasn't going to BUY any mud flaps, my buddy runs a truckin' company and has a stack of flaps, he replaces them once the bolt holes get torn out.

Bill, that sounds like a good idea, with the silicone and all. I got the Perf. Acc. kit so it comes with the bumper mounts.

I am doing the lift between X-mas and New Years, that's when I have time off work and use of my buddy’s heated garage.

Thanks for your help guys.

Hey Bill, how does the garden trim look after a year? That sounds like a great idea you've used there and I was thinkin' of doing the same. I've been lazy and haven't wanted to spend 40 bucks on real lip gaps.

I installed a 3inch Performance Accessories Body Lift on my Blue 99 C/C Sport. I went with the Lip Gap Gaurds from Performance Accessories. They cost me about 100.00 dollars but were well worth it. They are cut to fit and are marked for each wheel well opening ie: DR/PR/RR/LR. They are very shiny and look greta on the truck. When or if you order them, be careful and be sure your parts store orders the ones for the 4 wheel drive model cause they make them for both 2 and 4 wheel drive.
I know they are more expensive but they look great.

My home grown lift lips are looking just fine. They are still securely fastened. I painted them with the same black satin finish that is already in the wheel wells. They are not even noticable. You have to look for them just to see where they stop and start.
