Subject: BIGGER tires/ HOW BIG
IP: Logged

Message:
Does anyone know what would be the biggest set of tires I can put on my 1999 4x4 SLT. I have 31x10.5x15 Mickey T. Baja's on a set of 15x8 Centerline Hellcats. I want to go as BIG as I can without problems. I'm not sure of the offset of these rims but they seem to sit wider than stock. Anyone have any advice? I was thinking about a set of those Pro Comp X-Terrains or a set of Mickey T. Claws. I heard they wear down quick though? Any help would be great.

I had a set of 33x11.5x15's on my stock 99 4x4. Now I have a lift and 285's, but the 33's fit alright I just had to crank the torsion bars a bit (~1") and trim the front wheel wells a bit, not too bad though.
There are a few guys on here that fit 33's on a stock set-up but a lot who couldn't. Forexfour is someone who has them still (he has a Hanson bumper though) do a search for him and you'll find a link to his website.

I was thinking of going with the 32 x 11.5 on these centerlines. I didn't know if anyone had a problem with this size? Were there any steering issues? I can't believe they put the 33's on a stock Dakota! That would be sweet. How much did you have to go up with the torsion bars? How tight was the back wheels to the fender? I have the stock painted fender flares. Sorry for the delayed response. Any info is greatly appreciated.

I was wondering if you had the x-terrains? I was looking into a set of those and wasn't sure how they hold up. Do you know if they sell 32x11.5x15? With the centerline rims they are slightly offset and I dont think they'll rub. I hope!

They do not make the Xterrains in 32x11.5x15. The closest to that size they make are a 31x10.50, a 31x12.50, and a 33x12.50. Hopefully they will come out with one soon. They just recently came out with the 31x12.50. They are still fairly new and are still expanding.

Do any of you guys know what my options are for tires in the 32x11.5x15 size. My centerlines are only 15x8 wide so I know I can stretch 11.5's but 12.5 is pushing it. Who makes that odd size. I think I want a mud terrain style tire too. Send me some links or info. Thanks

Sorry about the double post!! Those aren't a bad tire. I believe they are a Bias ply tire also. I almost bought a set last week at an auto show in MA but he only had 31x10.5x15. I want to go a little bigger. Not a bad looking tire though. I think that the 12.5 will be like a balloon on 8 in wide rims. They'd fit fine on the stock wheels but would probably rub on the turns. Anyone else have any ideas on some 32x11.5's let me know.

BFG makes the 32x11.50 size in both their AT and Mud Terrain tires. Either one of those would be a good choice. As far as running 12.5 wide tires on 8" rims, they work fine. Most of the people here with 33x12.50's including me run them on 8" wide wheels. You can check out my pics to see how they look. There is even one or two people here running them on 15x7s. I'm not to sure that I would try that, but the 15x8s work great.

97_blk_dak ----Nice looking truck. I like the BFG's in that new Mud terrain they have. How would the 12.5's rubbing issues be though? I would imagine the 11.5's might touch on the tight turns. The Centerlines that I have now have a small offset so the bigger tires I think will be ok. Who else make the 32x11.5's . I need some options!!!!!!!!!!!!!! BFG's or Mickey T's so far. Who else!

If you are leaving your Dakota stock height, then 32x11.5 is as large as I would go. If you go any larger, you will have some serious rubbing issues. As far as other tires in that size, Pro Comp offers both their AT and Mud terrain tires in that size too. I have heard good reviews on these as well as the BFGs. Also the Goodyear MT/Rs are offered in that size and are a great tire as well. Also, the Super Swamper Radials are offered in that size. Just remember that these will wear out much faster.

Anymore views or suggestions are greatly appreciated. The budget says that the truck will remain the stock height...unfortunately . I guess I can only dream and try to fix this damn plenum gasket for now!!!! She's got 80,000 now so she needs some upgrades!

i had 32 by 11.5 bfg muds on my 98 4x4 and they only rubbed during a tight turn. i now i 33 by 12.5 bfg mud Kms and i have a 3in body lift.

if i was you, i would do what i did and get a body lift..(mine was 160 shipped from summit) so you can get 33s. if you do a suspension lift, you will already have 33s and you can just take off the body lift. that is why i did it..i knew i was getting a suspension lift before my new tires would have worn out.

good luck

The only way I'll lift my bitch is with a suspension lift and unfortunately it's far out of the budget. Body lifts are good along with a suspension lift but I hate the look of just frame. I can live with the 32's for a lot less hassle!

Thats cool...if you are getting 32s, i would definatly recomened the bfg kms. i got mine at sears, i paid like 755 and which included road hazard and free rotation/balance when ever i want.

the road hazard lets you replace your tires for only $45 each if you slash a sidewall or something like that...

here are some pics of the tires on my truck

my truck is the white one. the red truck has goodyear mtrs
